This was on my last run of the day too. Went balls out on that turn. :Ownedd:
As you can see I need a little more power to spin 245 T1R's in third.
Now it's mad and wants retribution.

WHat i want to know is why you stayed on the gas. You clearly were overshooting it by a long shot. O yeah, and the reason why you can't keep your tires spinning is because your revs are too low. The only time your car was loud was when you dropped into the inside section and the tires were spinning just fine. Shit sucks. Fix it and try again. Maybe take off your aero next time.

yeah , the revs sounded very low throughout your whole run..
hopefully it's just aero damage.

I'm guessing dented wheels, bent control arms, crushed exhaust, a little frame tweakage but not too bad, and aero got some cracks in it.
CKAMC
08-17-2006, 06:08 PM
sounds bad... looks somewhat ok... but atleast that last turn looked pretty cool :keke:
Check suspension... may have a bad shock depending how much that bump into the grass did and how your coilovers are in terms of age and quality. Yeah lower control arm may be affected as well.
I had the same thing happen to me but it was touge out in the desert.... last time I do that at night!

yikes! i thought your run looked pretty good. i was thinking that when the description said "sweet jumps", you'd go up a bank or something. good thing it was at a track too... i hope your car is okay :)

That really blows, I'm going to have to agree with Flybert about the damage.

I know what you're saying but the inside section is second gear which is fine anywhere. I was trying different things all day. I tried to take it in second a few times. The only thing that I think would've worked is shifting to third mid bank after second gear was maxed. Or not manji the straight and just go for speed. Either way whatever. 50 more horse would work too.
As for damage...there is some creasing in the engine bay and I need a new alignment. The aero has some cracks and the front right wheel is fucked. Pancaked exhaust. Flybert wins the damage guessing game.:w00t:
I tell you what...it could've been worse. Sometimes life throws you curveballs and this wasn’t my first curveball. Life goes on right guys?
Slidin240Wayz
08-17-2006, 07:32 PM
damn- creasing in the engine bay- ouch!
f-it, track cars don't need the straightest frames.
Sucks to hear about your wheel- you should have sufficient backups.

do you think ebraking it wouldve helped? i dunno ive never been on a track, but I wonder if you ebraked if it wouldve given the car more angle ?

Heel-toe would've been best. I was just way too fast.
Flybert

How much power and what size and type of tires were you running? From the looks of it, you didn't take an outside enough line because you were probably a little scared of the tree and the rail which is a something totally understandable. When you approached the final turn, your line wasn't outside enough leaving you with a shallow angle. When you have a shallow angle you build up speed much faster, esecially with wide sticky tires out back, and it pushes you outside farther and much faster leading to that crazy jump.
If I were you, i'd get the car aligned the best you can and get out there and try again but take a wider line near the rail because that is much safer to hit than than taking it wide near the tree. Take it wide near the tree when you get comfortable with it but it's not really necessary from the looks of it.

245/40 Toyo T1R's and the sr20 dynoed at 200whp at 7psi which is what I was running. Yeah I know I need more practice, that was like my sixth event and only second time at this track. I'm sure if I had a bunch of events on the same track all the time I would get it down.

What tire pressure were you running? Depending on the compound, you can get away with running 40+ without chunking them and it will make them a lot more slippery and more smoky. I've never run a T1R before so I can't comment on it's characteristics.
If I were you, i'd try running a 235 if it's not too narrow for your wheels and get something like a Federal SS595 or a dunlop FM901. I've been running the federals front and back with plenty of success and they are cheap as hell. Contact logan at www.aspecproducts.com and see if he ever ships them out.

Not all of us live in SoCal :D
Nice to hear the damage isn't THAT horrible, now the important thing is to get back out there and hit that turn again. You need the last laugh.
Agreed with others about drifting 245 T1R's on 200whp. Burn up something cheaper, and drift more easily while you're at it.

hey this is a stupid question but is there any possible way to learn how to drift as in the basics of angles and stuff like that with out actually doing it or should i just grow some balls and go to the track and learn on my own??? iv drifted somewhat on empty streets at mid night wehn theres no cars but i dont really consider it drifting i dont know i wanna learn and be in the car when someone is getting it completly side ways but =-( lol i dont have many friends that drift there 240's =-(
this is what im talking about o and its with a camera phone so yeah

You just have to go to the track. It's not worth it to learn on the street because you'll end up spending more money on repairing your car after you hit a curb or on wreckless driving tickets and you'll learn way slower as well. One day at the track will teach you more than days and days and days of attempting to street drift. I would suggest going out to a Just Drift event or a Drift Day event. Check out the motorsports section. There is a thread in there about people going to their first event. It's called "I'm a newb" or something like that.

The tires came with the wheels from Jerry. The fronts rub so I have a set of wide fenders sitting in the garage hence the black wheels in the video. If I had the Works on the front I would've been even more pissed cause they would've been fucked. I was running about 40psi in the rears. I know an S14 SR would’ve powered through that bank in third, it's just the S13 SR sucks balls for torque. I should've swapped the RB25 from my S13 into the Kouki before I sold it.
Yeah when I burn these 245’s off I will get 235’s and I was looking at the Federals. I’m going to keep the T1R’s for the front cause they rock.
did you bounce off the differential at all?
You know I really haven't looked under the car yet. It's been sitting for 2 weeks. I've been fishing a lot. :D
im glad u got it on camera, one day you can look back and laugh
That's what I like to hear. I'm glad I got it on camera too cause from the inside it felt very different. I thought I landed on the front first cause it happened so fast. At least I know where to look for damage.

Id RaThEr DrIfT: u really do learn much quicker on a track. But hey, one step at a time and you work with what you got right? Your power slides look ok, when you get more comfortable, start power overing a little before when your doing it in the video. When you step it up slightly you'll eventually start sliding before the apex and start learning how to put the car where you want it.
Props for running a fairly good show car not calling it a show car just saying. Sorry for the body work though hell back to the basics though.
