View Full Version : Possible to get Work Equip's in 17's?

I bent one of my Impul R5's a few weeks back when I hit a pretty large rock at 75mph. Turns out it cannot be repaired due to small stress crack elsewhere on the wheel unrelated to the rock incident, so they can't round the wheel and gaurantee they don't open the stress crack and ruin the wheel entirely.
It's impossible to find a replacement R5, but they are visually identical to the Work Equip (except they are 2 piece, not 3). But, it appears the Equips are only made in 19's now.
Any of you vendors or members with friends in high places know if it is possible to still get a pair of equips made in a low offset 17x9? I'd rather buy 2 of them instead of a whole new set of wheels.
To avoid confusion these are my Impul's, I'm looking for the 5 spoke version Equip.

I don't beleive you can get them in 17s new, but it would cost a lot. Where is the crack? Your best bet might be to buy new barrels depending on how your wheels come apart and where the crack is...
Or find a beat up equip and rebarrel it to be identical to yours. But keep in mind that if you do replace one wheel only it will throw your car off, especially if its in the rear. The chances of these wheels weighing the same are very slim.

Yeah that's exactly why I would like to buy a pair of matching wheels and just replace both rears for now. The crack is extremely small on the inside lip, the dent is about 8" away from it. I also already looked into barrells but it's a 2 piece and nobody I have contacted was willing to do it, and if they would the price would be outrageous.
I've been using the bent wheel ever since, doesn't shake or feel out of round at all. It holds 32psi for about 2 weeks and then it's down to 26 or so by then and holds steady there. I could probably hammer the dent out a little more, it's not terrible, but if I can somehow locate a pair of 17X9 equips I'd snag them and just have 2 full size spares.

I have been looking for those in 17 as well- sorry you're out of luck. The catalog only has the mad 19inch sizes.
Check out Yahoo! Japan, I have seen 17x9 +20 singles before.
Why can't you convert your wheels to 3 piece? I thought the impuls had the center section seperate.

www.rbmotoring.com constantly has equips like that for sale in 17 inch, not sure if they are the right offset but they have alot of them.

Yeah I check there frequently, it's where I got the Impuls from.
The odds of me finding just a pair of used 17x9's in the right offset is extremely unlikely though..

Maybe you can negotiate with RB motoring for a pair of their Equips and then run spacers.
Not ideal, but much easier.

TakumiProject, RBMotoring, or YahooJapan and a Japanese resident connection. You can also check out UpGarage, that's where I got my 18" Equips. But again you need a connection in Japan to purchase and ship them for you.

I've been looking for a pair of 17x9 or 17x9.5 0 offset to -5 offset Equips for a very very long time now. No such luck.

18s upfront on the s13 just isn't the jam, doriftoslut knows this (just look at fukuda). 17s is better clearance (w/o going into detail)

I'm looking for anywhere between +10 to +20 (I'm not hardcore)
I thought about the 18's idea, but can't find those damn things either.
I like the idea above of getting a pair of 17's and just having new barrells made since they are 3 piece...... not a bad idea.
Thanks for all the help thus far.
Was my first post invisible? What's the point of buying equips and reshelling them? You already have a perfectly fine center section you can reuse so just get wheel shells from some place like Kodiak.

He has 2 piece wheels not 3, so he cant just get new lips/shells. If he had 3 piece wheels that would be an option.

Ugh............you don't get it. The center section of the wheel bolts from behind the wheel shell. So there are two parts, the center section and the wheel barrel which is once piece (casted usually). So what's a 3 piece wheel? The center section and the wheel barrel, only this time the wheel barrel is split into 2 halves to allow bigger selection of width/offset. Once you assemble the two wheel halves together, what's the functional difference between that and a wheel barrel that was originally one piece? Nothing.
Bottom line, it doesn't matter if the wheels were originally 2 or 3 piece. If he can unbolt the center section of the wheel he can bolt them to any kind of barrel he wants whether it's one or two pieces. I know for a fact this can be done, back when I had a z32 some guy on twin turbo converted his old school 2 piece volks to 3 piece.

That would be great.
This from a reliable source at all?? If this can be confirmed by anyone please let me know, I'll wait instead of buying a new full set of wheels if this is true.

Corey from SPL mentioned it, they're a work dealer but I dunno who he heard it from/found it. it might just be hearsay.

I just talked to Work USA, they haven't heard anything about that.
Work Japan may have some plans, but they are on vacation so can't confirm at the moment.
Work Equips, if they did come back in 17 and 18, would be quite pricey, I'm not sure how many people would be down. Equip 19s start at around $900-1000 PER wheel so go figure.

Logan, are the 19's forged?
If they made a cast 17 inch version, maybe it'd be more reasonable? Also with a more common size, it'd be in higher production, making it cheaper? one can hope..

08-11-2006, 06:59 PM
yeah forged
multi piece cast wheels are so gay (uhh 57pro? what the fuck, do people actually buy thoes or do they come in wendys happy meal)
the point of equip is not to sell a lot of wheels and make it affordable to joe shmoe. the point is to compete with BBS LM and shit. it says "KING OF WHEEL" in the catalog on the equip page, not "KING OF AFFORDABLE HEAVY COMMON SIZES" haha

18s in good sizes are $750-$850 a wheel. 17s were $700-$775. PER wheel.
Yeah they are rad, but how many of you are actually considering that shit???????
KOUKI KA-T
08-12-2006, 06:11 AM
I have no problem paying 700 per wheel if they are the exact size I want.
I would still buy a pair.
