Hello all,

I ordered a custom size and offset of Gramlights (just like the ones on Mike Gentile's ex coupe) and it's been beyond the 60-90 day waiting period they quoted. Is it time for legal actions? What's the longest you guys have waited?

trust me your not alone... i ordered a set of gram lights 57C's back in february and just got them last week... i called the company once the 90 day time passed and they just kept sayin "should be here in another week" so finally they got tired of me bitchin and finally got my wheels for a little over $1000 shipped. The sizes were 17x8.5 +30 and 17x9.5 +22 offset so i got a good deal but took FOREVER to get. lesson learned is try not to order special "parts" unless you got time to kill.

um

They had (still have?) the cheapest price with shipping. That's why.

Never thought it'd take this long.

Now you know why the prices are cheap. The service is "cheap" too. You get what you pay for. Go with a respectable dealer, spend a little more, get your stuff on time. Go with the lowest bidder, get shitty service.

Vivid doesn't have the wheels.
You buy them from Vivid, Vivid tells Mackin, Mackin ships them to you.
At least, that is how we work with them. I assume it is the same way for other companies.
So, You are actually waiting on Mackin.
It is just how things work.

Exactly. We as well as most others do the same. Unless by some chance a shop happens to have the wheel in your specs in stock they are special order from Japan via Mackin Industries.

This is why you don't want to put 100% of the money down as you wont be seeing the product for awhile! Any place that asks more then 50% deposit or tells you custom wheels will only take 8-12 weeks is the suck.

Nah, legal action? A bit extreme, no need to jump to conclusions just yet. 6 months is kinda long for Gram Lights, but not surprising.

You special ordered wheels from Japan, so well, its a special order from Japan. I know waiting for wheels sucks (some of my customers have experienced it worse than others) but you're getting wheels from another continent so waiting is to be expected. Also, once you dropped that deposit, you are agreeing that you are willing to wait. What I tell customers is that if you don't feel comfortable waiting, then don't special order. The main goal is to always get a customer something in stock before having to resort to special order, but if you want a specific wheel, then that's what you have to deal with.

There are often reasons for delay, and often times it has nothing to do with the vendor. Like Brian stated, in this case, all Gram Lights authorized dealers go through the major Rays importer Mackin Industries, so sometimes it has to do with a container being too full, which will push the wheels to a later shipment.

As long as the vendor is keeping you in the loop, then I think they're holding up their end of the bargain. And the best thing as a customer is to be patient and understanding. The less patient and understanding you are, the less patient and understanding the vendor is going to be.

MOST vendors are on your side, and as long as the company you ordered from is an authorized distributor going through the legitimate channel, then you have nothing to worry about.

I just recently made a customer wait half a year for some Super Advans, but he was very understanding and he got his wheels, and everyone won.

I would recommend however, that whenever you special order something, buy from an authorized dealer, and preferably someone local. Socal is chock full of vendors and everything comes here first anyway, this is the epicenter of where it all goes down. Regardless of if you were in Socal or not, I would say the same thing. It's always best to do business face to face with someone, especially if you are dropping a substantial amount of cash on something. And above all, use your judgement, its your hard earned money, so if its too good to be true, don't do it.

Good luck with the wheels.

Ignorance and arrogance aren't hard to spot.

This is why you don't want to put 100% of the money down..
This is a good point for others, seeing as I didn't make this mistake.

...Also, once you dropped that deposit, you are agreeing that you are willing to wait...
Good luck with the wheels.
Our verbal agreement was 60-90 days.
I called them right before I had to scramble off to school, and they said the wheels were shipped and they'd e-mail and call with tracking info; another lie they told.

If only I knew you A-Spec guys existed 6-months ago...

Well, verbal agreement is one thing, but its just a estimate. Mackin tells dealers 60-90 days, which is often a good rule of thumb and why they told you that, but I usually throw in the disclaimer that 60-90 days is just a ESTIMATE, and can possibly take longer. If someone says the words Advan, I usually follow that with a "do you want them this year?" :)

Well, if they said the wheels are shipped then great hopefully that means the wheels are on their way, maybe they just didn't have time to get you the tracking info. It happens, sometimes you just get too busy in the day to get to some things.

Now if they say they sent the wheels and in actuality they haven't shipped anything, then that's getting a bit more shady and you need to square out the truth. As far as legal action goes, if it came to that, you would be better off squaring it away with your credit card company.

give u an idea. a 10 lb stereo box costs around 50 bux to airfreight. so ur looking at around 200+ per wheel.

anyways its not the damn shipment that takes time.
that takes a month maybe month and a half. the big wait is on the wheels to be ordered, forged, and then sent back out.

sometimes customs blows too though. i believe my uras were in customs for around 2-3 weeks when i ordered thru raretrick.

air freight would not be worth it, way too expensive

i can barely convince some of you to buy wheels, id love seeing faces after i tell u how much air freight is haha

i think i had rays air freight center caps, that costed $50 or something

keep in mind that mackin orders wheels by CONTAINERS, so you have to wait until a container is full to ship it, or sometimes if its TOO full then it gets pushed to next month's container

sometimes u win sometimes you lose

Just like we buy JDM cars here. Sometimes boats won't go for months. It's luck of the draw really. My seat had to be taken out of my car for customs and sent in a seperate container. I should have bought some parts while I had the chance(spent all my money on my car). Maybe one of these days I'll pay for a container and fill it up with a ton of parts...

i shipped air shipped
5 boxes of my TE37 wheels
one week picked up in torrance
752 dollars
it wasnt the shipping it self, it was the transport form where my wheels were to NARITA by a courier type thing.
next time im boating my other 6 wheels over. should be about 600 bucks. dont really care
i paid next to nothing for those sweet wheels.

it was a lot
but totally worth not going thru mackin
and it still came out less then buying them thru mackin. madd hookups dogggg
hahahahahaha

Viceroy is awesome enough to have you sweatin balls trying to come up with some quip for your sig. "hehehe, this pic will show em"

/im done.

Getting wheels is just like everything else from japan, you wait forever or you front big money to have it thrown on a plane.

SPL gets a container shipped every three weeks, which is why I like going to Kuah for as much as can, since I know that if he can get his hands on it its not gonna take longer than 3 weeks and its not gonna cost an arm and a leg.
