Hey, I have a 92' SE Coupe that Is the Sandstone Beige Metallic color, and It has painted pinstripe on It... I don't know If painted pinstripe ever came from the factory? But anyways since this Isn't just the regular old vinyl pinstripe found on most S-Chassis, I have no idea how to get this shit off without destroying my paint??? Any tips on how to get It off would be great!

Also, the painted pinstripe doesn't appear to be underneath the clearcoat just painted on top of It.

Oh, BTW I searched before I posted I could'nt find a very decent write-up about this.

Thanks

I would agree with you if it was the typical vinyl pinstripe, but if its painted, i dnno.

Paint can't be that easily removed with wax. Vinyl residue can.

Maybe its just me tho.

I'd give clay a shot first.

Then, use paint remover designed for TOUCH-UP paint. It may not work, but worth a shot...it's usually harmless to anything the factory did.

As always test in an inconspicuous spot...

You can also tape off things very well and try more aggressive measures in chemicals (wipe once with them, once immediately with a clean cloth), dremel and sanding/compounding, wet sanding, compound, etc...you will probably need to reapply the tape several times.

For non-paint pinstripes a dremel with the rubber nub is a miracle. :)

If it is a sticker, 3M makes a product that looks like a circular eraser. You should be able to find the smart eraser by itself and you can just hook it up to a drill.

If the pinstripe was painted on after the clear coat you have a few options. Thinner or Reducer from a paint store. But be careful with it, and don't get it anywhere near fresh paint. The most harm thinner/reducer can do to older paint is cause it to look dull, but a good buff can fix that. If it's under the clear coat don't mess with it, your SOL, it's there until you get a paint job. As for the stickers, I peeled mine off by hand, but an eraser wheel will work fine.

if clay bar can remove a PAINTED pinstrip then will it remove the rest of your paint? haha damn seriously though if it's painted you can sand it off thats the only way to remove it. I'm sure it's just really old vinyl

sorry to bring back an old thread but I am did a search how to remove the pinstripe and saw this post.

No, It won't remove the rest of your paint as long as you use it correctly it just removes the pollutants on top of the clear coat.
