Apex'i Hybrid Megaphone Exhaust for S13
So then I said to the horse, why the long face?
http://www.eastcoastdrift.com/teddy/kurant/s13apexihybridmegaphone/apexis13hybridmegaphone_medium.jpg
Ok, here's the deal guys. We got 2 of these things in as a trial to see demand, and both flew out the door on the same day we put them up on the site. Because of the quick popularity, we made some phone calls to our cousin Luigi "The Tree" Mancino and wheeled and deal with some guys back in the cut to bring this special to you.
What you see is what you get - Apex'i JDM Hybrid Megaphone Cat-back Exhaust for S13's.
Per Apex'i - "The Hybrid Megaphone exhaust is Apexi’s interpretation of how each vehicle's exhaust system should have looked and performed right from the factory. The styling is subtle and elegant, but still retains characteristics of its racing origin."
Per Enjuka'durr - The Hybrid Megaphone kicks ass. 3" to 3.5" piping flows like Bob Marley but doesn't cough like him. Free flowing and quieter than anything we've ever heard, this exhaust is for the guys wanting to be unique and get away from the standard N1 muffler look. Get the gains from the large pipe diameter, but not the notice and attention from passerby's and the local law enforcement. When we say this thing is quiet, we mean it. Great for sneaking out of the house when you don't want anybody to hear you! When I say this thing is JDM, I mean the part number isn't even in the USA catalog listing. Once these are sold, that's it. Done.
Here is the installed one-piece bling - droppin' panties since July of '06

Pricing is as follows:
Exhaust = $299

Keep in mind this exhaust has a retail price of $560 - that's over 45% for all you math majors.

Be the cool guy in late 4th quarter and think outside the box with this one. Rest assured your friends won't have the same one! 22 exhausts are enroute probably crossing Texas as you read this, and we have one extra here, so once paid it will ship ASAP. These exhausts are already in the US just coming via truck freight to our location from the west coast. This is an open GB so no need to wait until other people buy.
Thanks guys, as always let me know if you have any questions. And don't forget to check out our ongoing specials in the advertiser special forum!

Length of GB will be determined by how long it takes to sell through all of the exhausts. Once all 23 are gone, that's it. Right now we have 19 left.

I just installed my Megaphone. On an N/A KA is sounds really bad, and drones during low RPM cruise. Kinda raspy on acceleration. Even with the stock cat, this exhaust is much louder than it should be. You would imagine that behemoth muffler would muffle a bit better. The muffler itself is HUGE and it doesn't hide very well, so you have an enormous can hanging below the bumper. The tip is also very big, and not discrete. The muffler itself is polished to a mirror finish, and at night blinds anyone driving behind you. My friends say it reflects light into their interior and lights up the car. I would suggest having the muffler powdercoated before installing.
The fitment sucks - it sits too close to the floor pan, and hits a bolt, that i think holds down my seat cuz it keeps nailing me in the ass everytime i go over a bump. The threaded muffler hanger uses a different bolt than the stock one, and i don't think that size and pitch is used anywhere on a 240. Its thinner, so it would be lose in the bushing and consequently rattle. I ended up drilling out the hole and using a nut and bolt so it fits correctly. The flange to the cat was also slightly off.
Its not a bad exhaust though, its just not what its advertised as, and its not what it should be. If youre looking to buy a Hybrid Megaphone, spend the extra money and get an ex-mag, or circuit sports dt. I got this exhaust to be discrete, and have a sporty note without being loud. Apexi states that this is the exhaust cars should have been factory equipped with. Bullsh**t! You will find yourself going deaf on the highway, and looking in your mirrors to make sure youre not blinding a cop as hes trying to pull you over. My $0.02. I gotta get this fart can painted asap.

Dude, This exhaust is meant for a turbo car...Any 3" exhaust will be loud on a NA, thats just how it is. :duh: My roommate has the exmag on a NA, it is loud as hell. I bought this exhaust in prep for my SR swap, I haven’t put it on for a reason. I am a little worried about the fitment though, I would like to hear from other people on this.
BTW Enjuku service is excellent, and quick to response...Thank You.

Ok fellas - hers the deal.
Getting more is in the works, but most most likely won't be this cheap due to increased cost to get them here.
If we can get more would you guys still be interested if the price raised to $434 shipped? We'd be having to pay double freight to get them back in the U.S. assuming we can get more - which we are working on.
Would you guys still want the at the increased price? I'd love to do them again at the same price but its just not possible.
Let me know what you guys think so I can convince my boss to tie up a few thousand $$'s in 20 something exhausts :)

Enjuku, or anyone else, do you have anything to say about this review? Are there fitment problems? Is it really quiet on a SR? In the video clip, it is hard to tell since the car is driving away from the camera slowly, It would be nice to have a better video, maybe an In-car video and a outside video where it revs higher.

Did you read what he wrote? He has an N/A KA. They are loud as hell no matter what free flowing exhaust you use. It was made for SR, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Homeboy just because its an NA, some of the exhaust characteristics still apply. I have had a 2.5 to 3" exhaust on both KAs and SRs and some were loud as fuck in both.
Yes i did read, but my question still stands, and no im not gonna trust " Buy this exhaust because your car is turbo and it should not matter"

I'm not sure why there were fitment problems with that exhaust on his car. Our guys have put 4 on for local customers in about 1/2 hr. And that was on the floor with a floor jack and stands. Never once did they complain about fitment - and believe me those guys complain about everything! Especially Estevan! Was anything else bent on the car or ever in an accident or bottom of the car damaged from being low?
As far as the sound goes, I am sorry I didn't have a KA clip. All the ones we put on were on SR's and they were very very quiet. With or without cat on stock exhaust manifold'd SR20's, these were the most quiet we've heard in a LONG time. I guess I shouldn't ASSume next time, I will try and be more clear in the description.
I didn't know mirror polished would be such an issue. I thought thats what people wanted? Shiny polished aluminum and stainless has been the hit of 2006. I posted a sound clip, showed uninstalled pictures, and installed pictures from multiple angles, and it had a great price - I tried to set you guys up as best as I could.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Yes some exhausts will be loud on a turbo car as well, but you have to compare the same exhaust on both. I can guarantee the KA will be much louder. Obviously if you just have a straight pipe it's going to be loud no matter what, but this exhaust was designed for the SR. It was designed to be quite. Get it?
It's like the Ex Mag. People with KA's say that's loud too.

using a turbo exhaust on a n/a car will be loud as fuck especially with no cat. this is because turbo cars flow more and the turbocharger on turbo cars actually acts as a resonator to drone down some of the exhaust noise. if you're running a large catless turbo exhaust on na you might as well be running a straight pipe from your headers. one of my friends has an rsr exmag on his sr car and he claims its still too loud. this is probably due to the fact that the rsr exmag doesnt have a resonsator and he was running a test pipe. he bought an aftermarket cat and he said things were quiet again. this apex megaphone exhaust has a resonator! if you want the ultimate quiet ride with a turbo exhaust, make sure your car has TURBO, a cat, a resonator (maybe you can add another one), and no giant canister muffler. running 3'' turbo exhaust on an n/a application would be loud as fuck regardless. get a 2.5 inch exhaust or stay stock. (on a side note, my friend had a blitz realize on his na ka and it sounded nice. not too loud and pretty nice tone) but is it really worth the extra 5hp to spend 400-600 on an aftermarket for ka anyways? turbocharge your ka/get sr or just stay stock. mild mods like i/h/e dont really net you much. you cant expect a fast car that's going to be quiet. gotta make compromises.
if you want stealthy look dont get a canister style exhaust. stick with 5zigen border, rsr exmag, blitz realize, this apexi megaphone, etc look. also dont get a shiny exhuast. if this is too shiny just go buy some flat black rattle can and make it look like an rsr exmag.
as for this exhaust it seems pretty good to me if you want some power, stealthy look, and pretty decent price compared to some of the 600 exhaust out there. it also has a resonator.
as for fitment issues i dont know what is up with that. exhaust from an reputable aftermarket company like apexi should be just bolt on. ive never heard of people having problems with apexi n1, n1 dual, or gt-spec. (except that after 5 years that some of them start to rust but i think they fixed that now with the new n1 evolution)
anyways, my thoughts regarding this exhaust is that its nice for what some people are looking for. it offers a pretty cheap price tag, has the non canister look, 3'' all the way through, and has a resonator. im not worried about the fitment issues it should bolt on and fit fine. compared to other exhaust of the same category... the rsr looks stealthy but doesnt have a resonator and will be loud. 5zigen border is only like 60mm or something (probably your best bet for na/ka with stealthy look). blitz realize tt is 76.5mm (almost 80 but 3'' nontheless) and has resonator but its 600 and not made of stainless steel (although i heard new versions are stainless). most of these exhaust are shiny except the rsr-exmag but like i said earlier a can of flat black will solve that.
the only gripe i have with this exhaust is that the canister does look kind of big and hangs low (which is not good if you are planning to SLAM your car like im planning to since it will hit bumps but if you're going for a moderate drop like most people than it shouldn't be a problem). it sounds like it hangs pretty high which is a plus b/c im planning to slam my car. (i have a blitz nurspec for track and that thing hangs incredibly high and has awesome fitment).
if you want quiet and stealthy just stick with stock exhaust. like sam of jspec says.. if you're putting race car parts on your car for off-road use only you should know what you are getting into. no crybabies.

These exhausts are great. I have a the Apexi hybrid megaphone dual setup on my SC400 and it gives a really quiet deep tone and nice look. I prefer these to the RS*R ex mag that I had on my s13 and look basically stock.
