View Full Version : Headlights go up, not down... Help!

so i have an issue, my headlights on my car will go up, but not down. I switched out all the relay's from an old relay box that I had, and I get the same symptoms. So I'm thinking it's a wiring issue. Any ideas? When the headlight switch is pushed in, and i try to roll the lights down by hand, the motors pull them all the way down, and then back up. So the motors have to be fine.

I was thinking of hard wiring the lights to a switch, with an inline fuse or something but I don't know how well that would work. B/c I believe the stock headlights have relays for going up and relays for going down. So I think they would go up, but, I don't know what would make them go down. Does anyone know how I could hard wire them to go up and down?

Thanks, Charles.

Change your Wiper stalk, end of story

why not just leave them up?

So if you've tried the plugs in the relay box, try to follow the wires on both of the headlight motors, See if there is anything false, or short circut.

On the switch that you press in to bring up the lights, pop that out and check that wirring, You might have to drop the plastic trim under the dash.

best of luck.

I think you mis-understood the problem. My lights work, but, they won't go down by themselves. I'm thinking about wiring them up to a 3-position switch, so i can use both signals, (up/down) on one switch.

I think you misunderstood me, Your headlights won't go down right?Well change the signal stalk (sorry i meant to say that haha) and see if your headlights go down or not. I had the same problem and i changed my signal stalk and my headlights went down after that

If you don't have extra parts lying around to swap out I suggest you get a FSM and start studying the wiring diagrams...

I have the same problem, i've pretty much narrowed it down to my wiper stalk (switch)...thinkin just that switch is bad and needs to be swapped out..

what if one light works fine and the other wont go down? Would it still be the signal stalk? This issue has been pissing me off they look good up or down but not half and half like mine lol.

I think that's pimp b/c you can make the car wink!!!! lol. In your case, I would check the relays, junkyard, just cut out both relay/fuse boxes under the hood. The stalk is one of those things where it's either going to operate both or not.
