Okay so I need to tune my car abit, and get it running better. I have a redtop with sr maf, stock sr injectors, walbro 255, and I have a safcII. At the moment my car runs kinda rich. I cant say how much but I always smell the exhaust and gas even while in the car. I have a fpr and have it set to about 38 psi. What should i do to get it running better. I am pretty sure I gotta check the timing cause I feel like there is a miss. I also get a decent amount of backfire. especially if I get to a higher rpm range. What settings can i change on the safc to get it running better. any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks.

i have the same issue with mine. are you running an atmospherical b.o.v.? but for the afc. set low throttle and high throttle to -2% accross the board. that should hold you over for a while and do something about the gas smell without making you go lean. but the backfire will always happen. sr's run rich from the factory. but you need a wideband o2 sensor or a a dyno tune. you can ask for somebody elses fuel map because every car is different and you could really mess your motor up. and i have my decel at 4.4 for 1 and 5.4 for 2 and that smoothed my idle out and got rid of the gas smell.

recirc but you need a wideband to get rid of that gas smell. i have a walbro 255 on my car and it smells like gas because i run rich between shift. atmospheric b.o.v. and i run rich at idle. i'm leaned out 2% accross the board and she's more responsive but i need a real tune

sr's run rich from the factory.

no they dont. How would Nissan sell a car if it smells like gasoline from the factory?

part of the reason why many SR swapped 240sx's here in the US run rich is because people upgrade to Walbro fuel pumps but dont upgrade to an adjustable FPR to turn the pressure down. And BOVs... MAF equipted cars weren't designed to vent off all of its air after the computer thinks that much air is going into the motor.

Search the tech forum, there has been posting about how to tune your safcII enough to get you to a tune shop.

they do run rich from the factory. i didn't say they smell like gas from the factory. i said the gas smell is partially from his atmospheric. b.o.v. that's why i said recirc it. but they run rich as a safety precaution. and yes you are right about the fuel pump. that's why i said mine is leaned out 2% accross the board but i really need to get a tune. you can run rich and not smell like gas

solution: get your car dyno'd with a wide band o2!! that's the only way to mess with an afc and not take chances of fuckin up your ride.

+1 on that. As cheap as I tried to skate out of boosting my daily driver KADE with leftover parts from my SR project car, I ended up having to fork over money for a wideband simply because its too risky to run around with a badly tuned car. Mine pretty much will pay for itself with the 34mpg Ive been getting thanks to a nicely tuned low throttle map and narrowband output of the LC-1 wideband. We all know how expensive gas is, why waste it with a rich tune?

damn i wish i was getting 34 mpg. if i drive around at like 55 mph on the highway with light throttole i might get 26 mpg. on wot i get more like 16-17 mpg and 21 mpg hwy. i'm still running stock boost but i don't have an afc tune yet. i would like to get atleast 30 mpg with my redtop. any suggestions?

Throw a wideband on your car and tune away! I tuned my car myself with 550's, Z32, 256 Cams, and all fuel upgrades with my SAFC II...so I know you can...
