I have the engine out of the car and the tranny off.

I take off the clutch. that goes well. then I go to take out the throwout bearing to replace it with the new one.

the tob is attatched to this thing that attatches to the shift fork. the 2 piece assembly which I pulled out spins freely.

I take it to my friend that has done this before and he says I have to take it to a shop to have it pressed and the new one pressed on.

so I do that.

and the new assembly doesnt spin AT ALL.

what should I do? I have to send this clutch out to someone TODAY.

EDIT PICS!!!!!!!!

Most people just hammer the old one off the carrier and hammer the new one on, it's what I did when I just did my clutch swap. Are you sure it wasnt pressed on backwards?

I'm NOT sure that it wasnt pressed on backwards. the mechanic looked very confused when he got it and they were having like a fucking umpire's meeting trying to figure out which way to hammer it.

I didnt know either:D

also I should add that he used no lube when he did it? maybe that affects it?

I took it back to the shop.

they said that it is done how it is supposed to be done... and he showed me that the center ring on the new one spins... and the entire assembly is NOT supposed to spin... just that little ring?

iirc only the middle part is supposed to spin. the face of the that ring in the middle is what pushes against the pressure plate, so that's the only part that needs to spin.

so you are telling me that the all of that torque is applied through that little ring in the middle and transferred to the gearing? wow... thats pretty neat lol

? the throw out bearing is applied only when the clutch is not engaged.

its job is to push against the pressure plate and disengage the clutch. since the plate spins along with the flywheel, the tob needs to spin.

when the clutch is engaged, the tob doesn't touch anything and sits around doing nothing.
