I am planning on buying a 91-93 240sx this summer, but my parents won't agree to it because they say insurance wil be too high. I have saved up 4500 working last summer for buying this car, and im gettin my license this summer. Iv'e been wanting a 240sx since I saw one at the nissan dealership in '97, then i researched 240's and found that i really like the style of the old FB/HB's
I wanted to get a 95+ but don't have enough money. So im getting an older ( 91-93 ) HB/FB.
I was thinking since its an old car, and that its a 4 banger insurance wouldn't be TOO much. But then its a coupe and im 16 yrs old.
What are your insurance rates? How old are you? What insurance company are you using?
thanks

I'm only 19 and my rates are $1800 a year (full coverage) and my brother that is 17 with another car is on the same policy so I end up paying $1080 a year, which is a deal I think.

I still have to pick up my car in colorado (im in oregon) And than I will put my insurance on my mother's policy. But I got a quote from allstate. if I was to do my own policy with full coverage it would be 4 grand year!!!!! I have good student discount, and driving school discount, and no accidents. But i am 16. I bet It will be like 2800 a year through my moms insurance once I get those discounts on there. After all, I am paying only 800 a year for liability on my jeep right now. And we already have 3 other drivers on that policy.

well, I am 19. I live in Orlando, FL. I have a total of 11 points on my lisence and two totalled cars. I am expecting to pay around $2500 a year with Allstate with just the minimum insurance required by law. Oh, plus I have a second car that I drive right now, which will make my total car insruance bill almost $4000 a year!

I pay just under $2900/year, which is about $241 a month. This is with a good student discount, defensive driving, and a clean record (no accidents or tickets). I am 19 going on 20 pretty soon. My insurance is through state farm, and includes full coverage on a 97 240sx se - 5spd.

**Keep in mind these are Canadian figures. To change into US just divide by roughly 1.65**
I'm 19 years old and drive a 91 Nissan 240SX SE. Originally I was quoted a price of 3,000 a year. Later I had my dad phone up and talk to them. Keep in mind this is what they told me! They would put my father as the primary driver on their car and my mother as primary driver on my car. I would be put as seconday driver on both cars. This is what they told me! So instead of 3,000 a year, it's only going to cost 1,000. Which is like 88 bucks a month or something...dick all. This is with Certas. Sure the registeration and ownership of car is not seen as mine anymore but hell I'd rather save that 2,000 a year and spend it on other things. Try phoning up your parents insurance company and working out the same deal
**EDIT** oh and I forgot to mention this is 100% full coverage.

Advice: Get on your parents policy and DONT SPEED.

98 SE 5spd, Sacramento, CA. One ticket. $2400/yr. Keep in mind that becuase your address contains the state of California, you will molested on your rates. When my ticket goes away in a couple of months, my rates should drop by approx. $35 ever six months. Yay.

A lot really depends on where you live and what the quality of the company is that you're going with. A lot of insurance agencies will drop you after you have a major claim... this can make it difficult to get new insurance at reasonable price.

I am 25, Louisiana, Insurance is through USAA, (Military only) I pay $500 for my coupe, liability, only towing and rental blah blah. I was told by my insurance that the coupe is a 'family car' and the fast back is a 'sports car'. So there you go, if you are worried about insurance, get a coupe!!!!

Before I got rid of my 1990 Z32 TT My insurance was $210 a month for lyablity and on my Driving record i had 1 speeding ticket 5-10 over, 1 defective vehicle, and 2 failure to obey a traffic control device AKA rolling through a stop sign. This was all in Southern Colorado. By the way I was 19. And yes i made the same problem you did. Got the car just couldnt afford it. I paid $9,500 cash for my car but it just went down hill about 2 months after i bought it(Turbos went out, Timing belt broke, Bent 2 valves). Lets just say it was not a sound investment.

I'm 18 and on my parents USAA coverage but im not sure exactly what i pay cause my parents just ask for $200 every 6 mos but I'm pretty sure that mine is about $530 a year for comprehensive with a $500 deductable. USAA is great, they give free tows and roadside assistance too. It's like having AAA for free!
BTW: No one in my family has had a single wreck or ticket in over 20 years. And i live in NC
