Ok, i'm having my s14 repainted in black, with a SLIGHT ice gold pearl.
I have to bring my painter(who speaks no english) all the materials. My question is, what type of paint, primer, and clear should i buy within my 500 dollar budget(for materials only)?
I am going to have him put at least 5 or 6 coats of clear, so it can be buffed and mirror smooth.(does that sound ok?)
What brand and type of paint do you guys recomend to stay within my budget, but still produce a long lasting, sexy paint job?

go into your yellow pages and find a place call "paint master" or a place that sells either PPG, or Dupont paint.
I only use Dupont Chroma base premium on my car with chrome base clear. all this pant and clear cost around 500 bucks. any surface primer is fine.
I don't understand why you're using so much layers of clear. more isn't always better. OEM paints is two stage with single layers. My cars are single layer.

Well, to be honest I dont know much about paint... So you like the Dupont Chroma base best... Is it easier to work with, a more durable finish or what?
I've been told by lowrider guys(who kinda know their paint stuff) that using 5 or 6 coats of clear will allow you to wet sand a LOT off, and give a VERY clean/mirror like finish.
Do you have a different opinion? I'm very open to ideas, but i'm buying the paint in a matter of days, and taking it to my painter asap. I'll also be removing ALL the windows so i dont have that goofy transition of old/new paint around the window seals....
thanks a lot for you time.

if your gonna remove the windows and all that you might as well paint the doorjams and under the hood.

I've heard from a lot of people that sherwin williams makes good quality auto paint. I plan on purchasing some later on this week when i paint my car. It's also a lot less expesive than dupont paint.

Yeah sherwin williams does make auto paint. when I repaint my car I'm going to get there top of the line. My bro is a commercial sales rep for them, and he told me that they supply paint to alot of the big auto paint companys. IIRC for the primer, paint, and clear coat it cost about 500.00, but I get a family discount that brings it to about 50% of the regular retail.
