about the rtv gasket maker. how important is it to follow its directions?
changed thermo stat and water pump today using the rtv. I just tightened the bolt right away instead of hand tightening it first and letting it sit for awile then re tighten all the way after waiting for the rtv to cure.
should i redo all again or just run it like that?

Ehh... I would redo it if I were you. If you tighten it before it hardens, all the goop is just going to get squished out.
Do it right or do it twice

I did it without letting it harden and it has been fine.

Probably wont be a problem, after re-sealing my diff I went and drove it a lot without letting it dry or "cure." But still, you should try and follow directions if you are unsure of yourself.

Probably the most important part to follow is the part about letting it cure for x amount of hours and then put your fluids in.

If a little bulb of gasket RTV gets squished into the thermostat housing it could break off and get stuck in the thermostat. The odds of that happening are probably small but its something to think about.

Wait for the results then react to it.

i didn't wait for the rtv to harder either when i changed my thermostat, and i filled it up like 30 minutes later and ran it. it held up fine
