Has anyone relocated the battery to the trunk of their S14? What kit or parts did you use.

Thanks.

summitracing.com sells a kit that most people use

2gauge wire all they way from the engine bay to the trunk(power), short ass 2gauge(ground) connect from a chassis point to your battery, throw battery in a sealed box or buy a sealed battery, find a way to mount it securely and bam your done.
The kit summit sells has a huge box for the battery, so you might want to swap it out for a smaller one that doesn't take up so much room. Taylor, I think is the company name also sells a nice relocation kit with an aluminum box which is nicer than the summit box

Screw summit boxes!!! First i bought one of their generic black trunk relocation kits, and it turned out the box wasn't sealed. So i called up Summit and asked what the hell the deal was with my box, and they told me the boxes are for vehicles with NHRA certified rear firewalls. WTF?! I nearly lost it at that point. If you go on the site and look up the generic unsealed boxes, they will now specify the firewall thing - thanks to me. Summit customer service are good people so don't yell at them!! haha

Then i ordered a Moroso sealed battery relocation. Summit was nice enough to take back the generic black box, and give me a discount on a Moroso box. If you own one of these Moroso boxes, you will know what horrid pieces of crap they really are. The clips don't line up right, the seal is a piece of cheap weather stripping, and they don't even include glue, and the plastic looks cheap - really cheap. For a $100 you don't even get battery cables.

Save yourself the money and buy a sealed Rubbermaid container. That way you will get a quality plastic, and most of those containers have a proper positive seal. Drill holes for cables, put gromets around the cables, and run a vent tube from the box to the outside. Hardware can be obtained from a... hardware store. Cables from a welding supply store.

Yep. Comes with 1 gauge wires too. It seems like a lot for a box. I'm telling you, Rubbermaid is the best.

....

btw, i would be weary of those plastic relocation boxes, because i use to have that(relocation kit was free from a friend) setup and the box broke where the bolts bolted to the bottom of the trunk...so all i did was bought some 8-12inch long bolts/nuts from lowes, drilled holes, bought a beefy bar in one of the ailse(that had holes already in it), found a peice of 1inch rubber hosing in the backyard, cut it and fit it over the top brace to be safe....bolted and it's hella secure!....no more battery tumbling in the trunck for me! lol...

for the power wire, i bolted the new powerwire and old together and ran it threw the firewall where the water drain tube for the evaporator is located...

wire you can buy from homedepot, look in the electrical section there should be a big tumbling rotating machine that carrries all sizes and type of wires, shouldnt be more than $1-$2 a foot for 1 or 2 guage wire... dont get 1/0.. i got like 2 feet trying to make a better ground.. the wire is so hard to work with and bend, wires inside the wrapping is literally the size of like wires used on power poles

battery cable is actually supposed to be #0awg stranded iirc

instead of running it through the firewall you can run it from the trunk through the interior, behind the ecu and out through the fender then through the washer fluid res...

1 gauge seems to work good for me :)

In my opinion it is better to use automotive stranded wire for positive on your battery. The #2awg, 1/0awg, and 2/0awg that home depot has is better suited for household applications. The automotive wires have more strands (albiet thinner) strands that will give the 12v more suface area to travel(electricity travels on the outsides of the wire strands) and thus result in less voltage drop(w/12v u have less room for error).

use the automotive type of wire for it guys, the home depot stuff is just so rigid. and just run it on the passenger side under the carpet and through the huge grommet that is right next to ur ecu.
