Hm 18 here. So 75 per month eh? Not sure if prices will vary with me. Some tell me to go with full coverage but I think thats pretty pricey..
Btw, I'm talking about people who pay insurance themselves, not under their parents name.

where you are located, how much you drive, what type of insurance you have also plays a huge factor in how much y ou pay.

There are TONS of options as far as the amount of coverage you recieve.
You can get away with liability + uninsured motorist in most states. If you are making payments on your car (which I hope you're not, because even the newest cars are 9 years old, now) then you need full coverage to satisfy the lein requirements.
Full coverage for me, when I was 24, was about $167 a month ($2000 per year). At age 25 that dropped to about $1500 per year (a smidge over $120 per month). At age 26, when I got married and got the multi-car family discount, it dropped to about $100 a month.
Now, that is a full beefed up protection plan: 100/300/100 + rental + low deductible. You could easily lower some of the protection and lower the premiums, but (before I got married) when you only have 1 vehicle, it is ESSENTIAL that you can depend on it 100% even if some airhead smashes into your backside while you are stopped at a stoplight.
PS: 4 weeks after I bought the car, some airhead smashed into the back of me while I was stopped at a stoplight. Go figure. But, that was years ago.

had my DL little over a year.
95 nissan 240sx se, 21 years young, all state, liability (15/15/30) & uninsured motorist, 65ish a month ($340 every 6 month). Perfect driver (zero tickets/ no acidents), good student, 5 year driving.
s13powa, it does make sense, your dad is older. I need to check out other insurance company and see what i can get for full coverage. I hear that around the age of 21-25, insurance prices gets cheaper.

Your 17 and the 240sx is considered a sports car....so put two and two together you are going to get raped either way.
im 23, liability with uninsured motorist with AAA i only pay about 50-60 a month. thats because the car is under both me and my pops.

I'm 24 in Las Vegas, NV with a speeding and an at-fault iirc... My 92 s13 with state minimum was $675 or so per 6 months = $112/mo. I added my 2006 Xterra with full coverage and put my GF (with at-fault & speeding also) on it and now I pay $900/6 months = $150ish per month. Thru Progressive.com

With all the money I saw not buying more coverage I have cash in case something does happen. The way I see it is that it something gets fucked up its probably gonna be an aftermarket part they wont want to pay out for anyway.

A quick insurance tip:
Go to the same agent your family uses. Most agents can set you up with a discount if they know your family is giving them business too. Its like buying a car - if you throw the guy lots of business, he'll usually throw you a discount.
The company sets the prices, but the agent can give you "preferred" status.

Can't you get like showcar insurance or something... I have no idea who does it or how much it is, but I know of some guy around here that insures his car for 6 months and he can only put 7500 miles on it in that 6 months. He said it was really cheap. Just a thought.

It's called "Pleasure" insurance. You only drive the car for pleasure, not for work. Something like less than 1000 miles a year. I have it. Saved me a good chunk of cash.
