Can anyone show me a picture of a hardcopy that explains Nissan covering seatbelt motors for life cuz of safety. I went to a Nissan dealership and they told me that my 1990 Nissan 240SX is not covered and they've never heard of a lifetime warranty on seatbelts. I know most of you guys just talk to them and they jsut yeah yeah cool, we'll set you up. But this guys want a proof that states thatseatbelts are covered for life.
*Are there any other lifetime warranties?

i remember hearing something like 90 and up are covered, but 89 your soo outta luck or something, I remember reading that on freshalloy long long ago back in 2001 or something.
I dont think its for life... i believe it is 10 year warranty for vehicles from 90 up... but I am not sure...
I can check with the service manager on Monday...

Taken from nhtsa.dot.gov:
"Make : NISSAN Model : 240SX Year : 1990
Manufacturer : NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 95V103002 Recall Date : MAY 12, 1995
Component: SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 2730462
Summary:
THE FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLE RELEASE BUTTONS CAN BREAK. THESE RED PLASTIC RELEASE BUTTONS ARE MARKED "PRESS." IF A BUTTON BREAKS, PIECES CAN FALL INTO THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE BUCKLE TO OPERATE IMPROPERLY.
Consequence:
THE SAFETY BELTS WOULD NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION TO AN OCCUPANT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
Remedy:
OWNERS SHOULD PROMPTLY CHECK THE CONDITION AND OPERATION OF BOTH FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLES AND CAREFULLY INSPECT THE RED RELEASE BUTTON FOR ANY BREAKS OR CRACKS. THEY SHOULD ENSURE THAT BOTH BUCKLES ARE OPERATING PROPERLY BY INSERTING EACH LATCH PLATE INTO ITS BUCKLE, TUGGING ON THE BELT TO MAKE SURE THE LATCH IS SECURELY LOCKED, AND THEN PRESSING THE RELEASE BUTTON. THE LATCH PLATE SHOULD POP OUT OF THE BUCKLE WHEN THE BUTTON IS PRESSED. IF EITHER RELEASE BUTTON SHOWS A SIGN OF BREAKING OR CRACKING OR IF EITHER BUCKLE FAILS TO OPERATE PROPERLY, OWNERS SHOULD PROMPTLY CONTACT THEIR AUTHORIZED DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE BUCKLE REPLACED OR REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE.
Notes:
SYSTEM: INTERIOR; SEAT BELTS; BELT BUCKLES. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER, MULTI-PURPOSE VEHICLES AND LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH SAFETY BELTS MADE BY TAKATA CORPORATION. NOTE: IF YOUR VEHICLE IS PRESENTED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPONSERVICE DATE AND THE REMEDY IS NOT PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, PLEASE CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261. ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONALHIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393."

The owners manual in my 89 makes no reference, as I read one day doing some other shit, to "useful life," it was simply named that seatbelts were a lifetiem warranted item.

Fuck that, call up those numbers, or the NHTSA. Fuck seatbelts failing. That's lametown. Call up Nissan, not some retarded dealership who doesn't care about anything but your money.

I just took my 90 240sx to nissan last week because my seat belt was tattered, and they replaced it without question, of course I had to make an appointment for it previously, which took them 2 weeks to get the parts in.. I got a booklet with my 240 that says they will repair seatbelts (or safety features, I forgot what it said exactly) free of charge for a lifetime, so they should

I may be wrong, but I thought that these belts were subject to recall or something along those lines and as such would be replaced by the dealership.
I cant wait until I put my s14 manual belts in my coupe :fawkd:

I've got a scan of the lifetime seatbelt warranty page of the "Warranty Information Booklet" from a 92 240sx. It clearly states on page 12, entitled "Lifetime Seat Belt Limited Warranty", subsection "What is Covered and for how long" that :
This warranty covers any NISSAN supplied seat belt or related component, that fails to function properly during normal use for the useful life of the vehicle. Warranty repairs are free of charge for parts and labor.
There is a section entitled "what is not covered" which goes on to say that they won't warranty seatbelts that failed due to misuse, alterration, accident, or collision damage. They also will not cover color fading/spotting or other cosmetic problems not affecting the belts function.
There is even a picture on the same page of an S13 seat with the auto seatbelt taken with stop-motion showing it moving from front to rear.
If you'd like to see the scan, send me an email because its a pretty big file (almost 3 megs) and I don't want to post something that big on here.

By chance, can we void the whole 800 number and cut a few hours of hassle?
My drive side seat belt is busted, so I will walk into the Nissan dealership and ask the parts department.

I actually found a recall notice in the glovebox of the 1990 I bought from my GF. It reads exactly like Squish Face's post. It's pretty cool I'll post pics of it.

I know the original poster is having a problem with his seat belt motors. I went to Nissan to get my lap belt fixed, and it was going to be a PITA, aka an appointment, they would need it for a few days-and its my DD. Also you have to sign a waiver allowing them to charge you if they find that the repairs are needed due to misuse, alterration, accident, or collision damage....etc. So knowing that I have amplifier lines running down there, I didnt want them charging me on some BS reason. So I took the lower lap belt out and found it jammed because it had about a dollars worth of change jammed way down in there. Just an FYI if someone has a problem with the lower lap belt instead.

The lower lap belt is easy to fix well in my car. However the seatbelt motors are what I'm talkin' about. rancid240, I got dollar changes everywhere too plus some chips and other kinds of food. T_T.

Yah it was an easy fix...just a PITA to remove...I had to take the assembly out to get to the change, it was all the way at the bottom of the belt, jammed in there nice and tight. And I sheared a bolt and broke the fuel door release as well...it was good times.

Damn right! WTF Is wrong wit ya' sucka! You don't ever turn down a good FREE thang! :D
I want to know if this will work with my S14. My passenger side seatbelt buckle is jammed. Can someone scan that lifetime warranty message? (preferably from an S14 manual for me hehe )

Thanks PHLIP...thanks a lot.
turknjd, I like you man...you always try to convince people to do the s14 seatbelts. Thanks though.
Now all I have to do is PRINT!
EDIT: Whoever left me a message to just buy new seatbelt rotors and screw the warranty cuz I have money anyway is a retard. This is how I save money. Every little saving helps.
