View Full Version : Security system!

Aight my car got broken into Sunday night...they took the new cd player and all my cd's...The next day I was going to get a good expensive alarm for it...too late.
Now that I have to buy another stereo deck for my S13, I cannot spend so much on the alarm. All I really need/want is:
* Two-stage bumb sensor
* Battery back-up
* Starter kill
* Hood/door/trunk sensors
* Preferably two or more 4-button remotes
* Preferably motion sensor
* Fuel cut-off
- Door locking is not a must, especially since a $75 adapter is required.
I can not and do not want to spend $250+ for an alarm. That is outrageous. I have already bought a motion-activated security camera for my driveway (garage is full of sh*t, so cars are outside).
Can someone recommend an alarm that suits my needs and is in my price range ($+-150)?

Sorry to say this man...but there really isn't an alarm that can guarentee anything. I had 3 alarms with all and more of the stuff you wanted on your alarm and my car still got stolen.
The sad fact is alarms only deter the joy riders but not really someone that will do a smash and grab or a professional. People don't really pay attention to alarms now days either. If youe hear a siren I bet you tend to ignore it.
Alarms are just for a binking light...they can't defend against a tow truck or someone popping the fuses on your car with a stun gun.
I suggest gettin a whatever alarm.

Maybe I could just get a flashing red LED installed and the maximum allowed tint...I still want an alarm tho...

I'm not saying not to get an alarm but I don't think you have to worry about gettin a really really good one...they all blink and most all come with shock sensors and starter kills.

I think you should get a stereo with a detachable face. Works for me. My old 240 got broken into, I had left my portable CD player out in the open. I know how you feel.

Well, it was detachable, but it also motored around to a black panel. Unless the theives were very literate on car stereo's, they most likely wouldn't have broken into my car for just a black panel. I plan to *always* remove the face from now on... I'm suspecting some guys working at the place where I bought it and had it installed (last Tuesday). It was a very neat job, with nothing broken (except the window) or messed up.
What about the Crime Guard 745i alarm system? It has all the features I mentioned, plus more, for only $105 an eBay. there are 55 of them for sale .

Did any of you actually read his post?? Geez... I'm not going to waste my time by retyping it, but I suggest you ALL reread his post.
Anyways, most MODERN car alarm systems have alot of those functions, and I've heard alot of good things about the Viper systems which u can find at Circuit City. But what I'm going to end up getting is the ~$250 from Rollhard Performance (www.rollhard.com) which has all the functions you listed and a separate controller (like a beeper but better) that tells you whats going on with your car.
We were actually discussing fuel cutoff switches at 240sx.org. If you can find a wire or make a bypass for the fuel pump, just put a switch (that can handle the power) and hide it somewhere, so if you have to leave your car for a long time, you shut off the power to the fuel pump. Someone wanting to steal your car, will start it, but only the fuel in the gas line will crank it a bit then it will die.. They'll think something is wrong with the car instead of an obvious starter kill. Me, i'm lazy so I pull the fuel pump fuse..

I think you're refering to the Aladdin 2000 alarm. I installed it myself and it isn't working.. I wanna shoot myself. so be careful installing it.
I have the same SONY cd player! i love it.. anyway, I suggest you clean up yo garage and park the car where they're supposed to be! I got my aladdin for 200 from rxforspeed.com

exactly, pull some fuses and no mother f'ing theif would think to look at the fuses. I mean, they r probably scared, and nervous and when the car doesnt work, they will try for a bit then give up.
Thanks for bringing up that tip, I was doing the same thing

i feel u!! my car got broken into about a month ago and they stole my pioneer cd player... the sad part is i actually have a nice Clifford alarm, i just forgot to arm it . total damages was around $800 but my insurance covered it minus $100 deductible.

like everyone said, even if you have the best alarm system, a pro can still jack your car or just pop open the hood and disconnent the siren. My girlfriend's cousin hooked up four different sirens (one under the hood, one in the trunk and two inside the cab), so if anyone does get the car, they'll at least go deaf. Might not stop them, but it'll cause some ringing afterwards.

The alarm might function as a deterrent. If you don't want your car stolen pull some fuses or install a kill switch. That's what I'am gonna do. My car almost got stolen (unexperienced thief, I guess) so decided to put both an alarm and a kill switch.

why not get an alarm system with a pager? my car was broken into about 9 months ago. i got this alarm system & i havent had a problem since. its really great because if anyone touches your car the pager will go off, so you can check on your car. it also protects against hit & run, since if someone were to hit your parked car, you will know thanks to the pager, so you can catch the bastard. i got mine off ebay for $300. theyre a lot cheaper now. my performance mechanic sells & installs the system for $250.

Pager alarms are pretty cool like the Alpine one... but the only thing is that they usually don't have a great range and if you are in office buildings or by alot of cement they don't reach.
My friend has one on his FD and we used to come runningout from where ever we were when the pager went off.....funny stuff.
But after awhile you tend to ignore it too since there are alot of false alarms.

On my S14, the fuel pump fuse is on the driver's side kick panel. The diagrams of which fuse is which is on the panel cover.

no matter what you do, just please dont ever get one of the ones that talk, viper and a few other companies make them, that is just an added incentive to mess with the car, even if just passing it in a mall parking lot. many times i have passed a car in a parking lot and it said "you are to close to the vehicle" and went back a few times to mess with it, never touching the dudes car, just playing with the sensors as we walked by. also, they can be set off if someone is parked next to you, and a passenger has to wait a few seconds for the driver to unlock the door.

There was some security system that I'd seen on tv a few years ago...that plugs into your fusebox, and totally disables all of the electrics if its triggered. I dont know if its still out there, but its worth asking about.

I had a buddy who had the same type of setup...only he had six of those little sirens in his vents hooked up to a seperate hidden battery. Supposedly after a minute in a car with one will cause you to lose some hearing permeantly. Needless to say, we had some fun with people.
