Ok, so when I ordered my walboro "kit" from Hybrid Performance.. they at first sent me the s13 sock.

I didn't realize it at first 'cuz I hadn't installed the fuel pump until a really long time after I bought it. So I emailed them and told them I wanted to purchase the correct sock filter..

This is what they sent me.

These pictures are compared to the OEM filter.. its noticeably shorter

So my question is.. thinking about it.. The sock has to be completely submerged to work properly.. right?

Because the pick up itself is the only part that actually sucks in fuel, and if the sock is only partially submerged it should suck in air, right?

So then why didn't the s13 sock work in my car? I had gas.. at least another 20-25 miles (related to if I were using the stock pump/filter) *the s13 sock was 2" in length maybe? But there wasn't enough fuel in my tank for the s13 sock to pick up any fuel.

How will this sock change that given that it doesn't even extend the pick-up length?

I don't think its acceptable that it should change how much fuel I am able to use out of my tank.

Granted, I shouldn't run below 1/4 tank of gas anyway.. but its still a concern I'd rather not have.

Using the s13 filter.. I'll run out of gas before my gas warning light even comes on..

Any ideas? Thoughts? Comments?
Thanks guys.

The problem you're having is common with the S14 kit, the sock is too short. There's a good writeup on FA about this, I found that the Honda Prelude sock is an direct OE replacement.

yea the prelude sock is pretty close...not exact

the angle is a couple of degrees off and it's like an inch shorter but hey it's alot better than the piece they send you with a S14 kit

The sock filter pictured is supposed to be the prelude sock.
You can match up the model number on the bag with the one on the order form I posted.

But the comparison is to stock.. and it looks wrong to me as well.
Did I get the wrong filter AGAIN?

Based off of the FA post, you got the proper sock because they stated that the Prelude sock is stil 2" shorter than the stock s14 sock. I am in the same boat but haven't ordered the 400-865 sock yet. How many of you are reusing the OEM filter or have you made due with the 400-865 sock?

I'm probably going to re-use the OEM sock.. but buy a new one. I don't want to re-gauge how much fuel I have till empty because of the difference in length. Thanks for clearing it up midnight zenki.

You want the prelude sock? Its brand new and still in the packaging.
I paid $17 shipped.

im using the s13 sock and i try not to go below the 1/4 mark so it was never a big concern to me. but maybe i should consider getting the oem one

I got the same prelude sock with my kit from FTF motorsports?? i think, back a couple years ago they sold an 'S14 Kit' with that sock included. With the prelude sock and I run out of fuel like right at the 'E' line now, there is basically no reserve. As far as I know, you can't just buy a new sock from Nissan... something weird with that. Anyway... that prelude sock is a hell of alot better than the s13 one, but looking back I see no reason why the stock one wouldn't be alright... mine didn't seem to be too dirty

Yah thanks Bill.. I'm gonna buy an OEM replacement. I can fabricate something to keep it on.. I don't see a reason I couldn't do it..

The prelude sock works fine. It has a better angle than the S13 sock. If your gonna go the OEM route, great! To each their own.

I wouldn't use the s13 sock. And the prelude sock is still shorter and means your tank runs out of gas before where its supposed to.

OEM sock is the best option if you car about when you run out of gas...
I don't want it to be different from stock.
