View Full Version : Ncda Night Drift Cancelled
FaLKoN240

05/15/06
In an email to NCDA Lead Manager Todd Ho, Altamont Raceway said that it could not get the required Alameda County permits to hold drift events. Because of this, the rest of the Night Drift season is on hold until further notice. There will be no drifting until the permit issue is resolved.
So. . .Night Drift has been postponed, yet again. I'm gonna go kill myself.
I just spent $50 on a full tank of 91 (for ND), to come home to this.
I'm curling up and dying RIGHT NOW.

I don't think the baby wannabe drifters helped this issue, but I don't think that's the reason why Night Drift is cancelled.
I'd be willing to pay $100 for Night Drift, I just wanna drive my car, and not worry about police, and curbs.

NCDA took a lot of people off the streets. I quit street drifting once I knew about NCDA. I fear this won't be the case this summer though.
Everyone appreciates NCDA's hard work. I don't get it though, Tracy is in San Quaqin Valley and Altamont Raceway is in Alameda county? So complaining to the mayor of Tracy won't help. If you wanted to stir some stuff it would have to be to livermore?

I know that i post this eariler but allow me to reiterate
This is the kind of (shit)/stuff that perpetuates illegal racing!!!! Take away the legal venues and what do you have
1. a bunch of pissed off drifters/racers who want race but can't which will lead too...
2. a community/ society that feels that illegal racing should be dealt with because it's dangerous for "our kids and others" (very true)...but wait...oh...that's right they tried, but took away our Freaking places where we could go drift and have a good time legally!
Because of what?? Permit issues?? Come on!! Look, I’m not going to knock the DDNORCAL or NCDA at all, but the city and (state if necessary) I am. They should really take a hard look at what's not being done! And that is getting illegal racing off the streets! If the "cities" continue to cancel events because of (what ever it is...permits)...they need to have a reality check.
Event providers such as DDayNorcal and NCDA are busting their a55es to get racing and drifting legal and off the streets. What happens when they succeed, they get knocked down by the city because of permit issues or that a representative of the council "believes it promotes side shows" Come ON!!! Where’s the FucN' sense. IMO Take away our venues and there will be more Freakin' side shows and more kids dying because they have no where to do it but the Street. This is Asinine

Someone wanna try taking it up with the city? We could do more petitioning if we can find out why exactly they didnt' give the permit out.
Anyone got an Altamont or NCDA insider who could give us more info? Lets use some brain power and push them up against the wall and make 'em let us have it.

The cost is where you pay, but haven't members here said they would fork over the dough (for drifting at least)?
Not enough?? all in California:
NASA (http://www.nasaproracing.com)
TrackMasters (http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/)
UnlimitedLaps (http://www.unlimitedlaps.com/)
NorCal Racing Club/Tracquest (http://www.ncracing.org/)
Driving Concepts (http://www.drivingconcepts.com/) (w/ drifting)
Plus many other smaller private organizations such as NCDA @T-hill, and Private Events at ButtonWillow, both which focus on drifting. It may cost more at ~$150, but its a whole day event at very nice tracks. I'd say there are many options still, for racing "grip" anyway.

Like i said before DDNorcal and NCDA provide events to the public at a affordable cost for the public. theses links you posted are nice indeed but the cost for two of the links you posted, at least $220 for a track day! NASA i've been to and it's fun no doubt i'll give you this, but the point is there arent' enought venues that can offer a good/great price such as NCDA, DDNorcal, Private events. going outside of these small organization equals High cost! now is it worth it...that depends on the person. but in terms of Drifting...NASA would be the only venue that would allow for this. all other places reall frown on drifting.

I feel that responsibility comes with age. If there are to be drift nights it should be excluded to people under the age of 19. IMO when you get highschool kids involved it turns into another F&F. Insurance companies don't want to back it up and neither does the city for the permits.
Maybe if there is an agreement with the city council of Tracy it can be doable.
Hey technically if we round up enough money we can just bribe the city council like most event planners do......

I totally disagree with responsibility coming with age. I see 45 year olds acting like immature bitches all the time, and 18 year olds giving intellectual speeches in front of thousands of people. Maybe 18 and over would be a good idea though.

05-17-2006, 09:44 PM
I disagree with the whole age limit idea, but i definitely see where you're coming from. But by excluding those 18 years and younger, we would just be encouraging them to go F&F on the streets. I'd rather see them be stupid on the tracks and crash or whatever in a controlled area. Either way, this situation just sucks. There's no easy solution.

If it's on a thursday they should be home with mommy and daddy studying....
There is a thing called high school and the one thing I don't encourage is a unhealthy study enviornment. If I was to condone kids to encourage them to come out to a night drift till 10:00PM, then something is wrong with society.
Plus theres a benefit to it.... Less people on the track, more track time for me....:naughty:

From NCDA.net:
At begining of 2006 we sat down with Riverside Motorsport whom is the managing company for Altamont Motorsport Park to secure the park for the 2006 season of Night Drift. Mr. Kenny Shepard the general manager who was filled with anticipation and excitment promised us the track will go through construction and agreed to host the 2006 Night Drift season. As spring comes along so did the rain and caused a construction delay and cancellation of the first 2 scheduled Night Drifts which no one could prevent. During early April we got the word that the county of Alameda was having some concern over drifting and is requiring a hearing and petition to reconsider allowing drifting.
However the May 18th Night Drift was still promised a green light from Mr. Kenny Shepard but all participants have to show good behavior in order for the county and authority to futher consider drifting at Altamont. During first week of May Mr. Shepard claimed to witness 5-7 unindentified cars showed up at Midway road in front of Altamont race way on May 4th and were driving wrecklessly. After a personal meeting with Mr. Shepard on May 9th he instructed Henry Ahn and I to send out the message and gather all NCDA supporters and driver to promise good behavior with signatures before he "feels" confortable with hosting the May 18th Night Drift. On May 15th I contacted Mr. Shepard and was prepared to show him over 100 signatures that were gathered and to discuss details to prevent complaints and enforcing rules against wreckless driving on Midway road. On evening of May 16th which is less then 48 hours away from May 18th Night Drift I recieved an E-mail from Mr. Shapard stating "you need to put the word that there is no drifting at AMP during this month or until we get the permit problems related to drifting resolved." All the way until this Email was received by me NCDA was under the assumption by the promise of Mr. Shepard that May 18th Night Drift will go on. I just want to share with you what happend and what took place. NCDA staff and I feel we have done everything we can to put Night Drift 2006 on the map without any negligence. It is my deepest regret the effort to organize Night Drift 2006 has to end this way without Altamont being recognized for the problems they caused at the expense of having NCDA's marketing credibility ruined. All I ask now is for fellow NCDA supporters to stick together while the combined force of corporations and government are all against amateur drifting.
Thank you for years of support.

Wow thanks Todd.... I think on behalf of most of the people who enjoy drifting that we commend your efforts. So what is the next step in order to either get AMP and the city to give us the permits or find some where else to run the drift nights? I was talking over with friends and what if we had some sort of security check points along midway road by people in NCDA? I think people would volunteer for that duty easily. Is it also possible with your knowledge of where else we can have possibly have drift nights? Maybe Marina air field or something? Thanks
