View Full Version : S14 Pedal Placement/Heel-toe (AT --> MT)

My S14 is a 5 speed swap, and I am wondering if there is any difference between the gas and brake pedal placement/height/etc between the manual and autos.

For some reason I am having a hell of a time getting comfortable with heel-toe'ing this car, it is a breeze in everything else I drive, but this car is difficult. I wear a size 11 shoe, and it seems I have to brake with the middle of my foot on the brake pedal in order to swing my heel over enough to tap the gas. This is very akward for me, however. I usually can brake with the 'ball' of my foot below my big toe and pivot the rest of my foot off of that to tap the gas. Using this techinique in the S14 causes my heel to hit the transmission tunnel, and the floor.

Sorry for the long winded post, I'm just trying to explain my situation as best as possible and see if there is a solution for me out there as far as repositioning the pedals.

Thanks.

AT pedal is wider than the MT one; when i swapped to a 5spd i had a machine shop help me hack off the left...about 1/3 of the pedal...then I added a sparco pedal set (extended the gas pedal down and to the left) to make up the gap btw the brake and gas.

If yo'ure having trouble reaching the gas pedal, brake without pivoting your foot.

use the left half of your foot (ball) to brake and gas with the right half (not the heel, the forward half).

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna think about maybe finding a manual brake pedal assembly to stick in there or just cut the actual pedal itself.

Hopefully I can retain my usual method of heel-toeing as it is the way I've done it for years and I don't feel like learning a new way to do it. :wackit:

if you have a powerful enough cutter it shouldn't be too bad, the worst part is the metal dust going everywhere, cleanup was a bitch if u don't put some newspaper down or somethin

the other technique isn't too bad, i'm too big to truly "heel toe"

just get used to hitting the brake pedal higher. manual brake pedal doesn't help any.

that bump in the floor is for the exhaust, and yes i used to hate it too. s14 was obviously designed with RHD in mind, in that respect.
