ok, as y'all know, i am looking at buying an s14, found a couple that are "ok" and a couple with apparent damage...
found an appealing 95 SE low-average mi & 5 speed
the issue is: it has blown bags
so, i need to replace the bags, steering wheel, and dash, right?
can i make the ecu think there are bags, and just do the dash and wheel? (i know it's a bad idea, please don't preach safety this time)
if i do replace the bags, must i also replace the sensors and reset ... something?
what am i looking at for cost of parts, willing to do all labor
just ideas
thanks all

I have a wrecked 95se and the passenger bag ripped wrong and i had to replace my dash I think it was 500
And sorry I have bad news NO ONE will put in an air bag or reset the light/computer no dealership no half ass shop my dad has looked and we had the bag
they have to sign off and their work and if it doesn’t work in any shape or form u could sue them
btw why does it matter to trick the ecu the only way u can tell after u replace the dash and wheel is the #### blinking dash light (im going to cut that fucker one of these days)

i'm in the same boat as you guys. the dash is pretty easy to take out. i'm planning on bending the panels back down and either patching the tear with some stuff my dad bought me, or covering the whole dash with some kind of fabric. good luck. btw there was a dash on ebay this week, it went for $300 or so.

ok all, are the dash pieces all the same color, or pretty universal or what?
i have no problem with the lack of bags... the inspector, however, might - i just wanna be legal (or look damned close)
also no problem cuting the lead... just want teh dash to look whole
and thanks for helping the newbie
Sean
also, how much would y'all be willing to pay for a car, 70k, no dash (as above stated) 5 spd?

hehe the no bags give u a racing edge too hehehe jk
I have the drivers side bag I don’t know how it got put on previous owner had it done passenger bag is the one they have a problem with problem is no one can say if the drivers side will go off without the passenger one
My dash and steering wheel center look exactly the same as the rest of my interior
Just cut the lead and put a spade connector on it so u can reconnect it when u sell it
Btw wtf is up with 95s and being popped I saw 3 of them when I was shopping for a 240 and I have seen 2 more recently, I guess being the first year of the s14 they made it too easy to trigger

Wow. I have been in 3 front end collisions ( only one my fault) and my bags have never popped out. I wouldn't pay too much for the car untill you have a mechanic look at the frame and tell if its been straightened or if it is indeed straight. Bent frames suck.
BTW. I saw the dash go on ebay, and they also had some airbags for $100 last I saw. I dunno if both were there, but I remember the drivers side.

the dash on the S14 was actually designed to "tear" down the front when the RH airbag goes off......its all about "angle of trajectory" so it whacks the passenger correctly. engineers dont always design stuff with "replacement cost" in mind !! (bunch of my buddies work for JCI here, they design and engineer interiors for GM Ford Chrsler etc.)
a new dash at dealer is OVER $1000!!!! and its hard to find a good used dash cuz most tear when RH bag goes off. SUCKS.
i may be wrong on this one.....i believe you have to pull the dash to replace the RH bag. if ur gonna replace it u might as well spend the $$ on a new dash cuz it'll be out. i'm NOT replacing my bags at all, so i've decided to repair the "hole" and tear left by blown bag, and have the whole dash re-covered.
**suggestion** if you think ur gonna get dash re-covered, and ur windshield is cracked from accident, remove the damaged glass, repair the dash, THEN replace the glass. the upholsterer can wrap the dash a lot easier with windshield out of car.
i'm in midst of doing al this now, so i havent attempted to "loop" the airbag signal to turn light off....sorry.
hope some of this helps! :cheesy:

Here's another solution to the hole....you can bondo and sand it down smooth and then paint the whole dash.
