I know several of you were considering going to the HyperFest event at Summit Point, WV in a couple weeks. (I'm sure someone can post the website here). As you know, this is a big two day event w/ a car show, bikini, racing events, etc.

Another thing going down that weekend is the "HyperDrive" where you can take your car out on the track with an instructor and do a track day. This is a High Performance Driving Event - not a race, although there will be other cars on the track w/ you and you have no speed limit except sanity and a desire to live.

The price for the HyperDrive was just dropped down to $99/day. You can sign up for one day or two. If you are interested in really having fun in your car, I suggest that this will be WAAAY more fun than hanging around the car show (which you could do the other day anyway). Check out the website for more details - I just saw the price drop somewhere and thought I would pass it along.

Wow $99 is almost enough to make me want to brave the throngs of ricers for some track time.....almost

I really thought about it. It is on the Jefferson Circuit, not the main track, but I did an HPDE there last year and it was plenty fun. I just have fears of 200 whp ITRs with stunnaz at the helm holding me up - as it will likely be all beginners. (although it is a NASA event and they will have their usual high quality instructors).

At $99 though, it is hard to pass up. My excuses include: I won't have all my parts by then; between the 6/22 event and parts I will spend over $1000 on HPDE's this month; my gf seems to think that whenever I'm not working I go to track events of get sloshed and sleep all day; and I suck.

Jefferson Circuit is a nice little track. I've been there a total of 3 days. It is VERY hard on brakes. Because of its very short length (1.2 miles?) and because it has several fairly hard braking zones (back straight, front straight, side straight), your brakes don't get much chance to cool. It's not a very dangerous track, but it is quite technical, especially when run in the counter-clockwise direction. If you plan on attending Hyper-Drive or any of the track sessions, make sure that you've converted your car to something like Castrol GT LMA brake fluid, and that you're running a mild upgrade sport brake pad, perhaps an Axxis metal master. The stock pads are OK but if you're using sticky rubber (I was using R compounds) you can end up overwhelming the pads a little bit.

Brake hard and late and you'll be fine

Nice info Thoraxe. That about matches my assessment of JC to a "T." I was using Wilwood fluid and boiled it late in the day (one day event). I know one guy that killed a set of Hawk HP+ pads and a set of PowerSlot rotors in one day (H22 swap Accord - so fast and heavy w/o enough brakes at the time).

It is a damb fun track though. My understanding is that it was built using what the owner of SP believed were some of the trickiest turns on other tracks he had driven. Very technical.

Yeah it's a great little track. I found out that if you want to volunteer to help out, NASA may pay for some of your costs. Check www.nasanortheast.net or whatever the site is and see if you can find info. I'll almost 100% be there.
