Yes they do share the same engine. Ford and Mazda appearently share a lot of things becuase the Ranger and the Mazda B series pick-up also share many parts.

POST WHORE...
Yes they are the same, I think that ford owns a bunch of mazda or something like that anyways... and they have been sharing engines for ever.
FYI Ford also owns jaguar and the new low model jag has a glorified ford taurus engine in it. Ford owns like 30 companies and they all share engines. While we are at it, The MAtrix and the Vibe share engines too, cause Chevy gave toyota the right to distribute the Cavalier in Japan etc.

The Mazda MX-6 and Ford Probe have always been the exact same car, just with different bodies and interior styling. Mazdas 2.5 litre KL-03 V6 went in both cars which share the same frame, suspension, etc, the entire platform. They were built side by side in Flat Rock Michigan, and both were considered domestic cars. (Yes, the MX-6 too...)
The Mazda B series truck and the Ford Ranger are also identical except for minor styling differences. Same platform, same engines. As for the Matrix/Vibe, it's actually the Corolla platform with a raised roof and other modifications. Both engines are Toyota powerplants, as well as the transmissions. The Vibe is just a Matrix styled by GM. Toyota and GM have been dealing for a long time, I think ever since they built a plant in California together to build the Geo Prism (rebadged Corrola..).

anyway.. there is a JDM swap for the probe b/c the engines in Japan are better for the MX-6 (go figure)
the 2.5L KL-ZE has 195hp in JDM land

MX-6 GT Turbo (87-89) and Probe GT (87-89) had the same 2.2L turbo as well. Don't race the MX-6 GT, they are scary fast if you are "stock" (intake, mild stuff). The V6's are slow in comparison.

The 87-89's are fast? I knew they had a turbo model but knew nothing about it. Do you have any specs?

My brother owns a 95 Probe GT and you may go to http://www.probesnw.net/ for more information. Actually their group is going down here in Medford, Oregon to run our dragstrip and auto cross. It would be cool if we can have a 240sx and Probe show-off/match! Hahahahaha. J/k.
Does Nissan have an American counter part? Because there's:
Toyota & Chevrolet
Mazda & Ford
Mitsubishi & Dodge
Any others?
Thanks.

The probe and Mx6 are acrualy verry diferent than each other. They have the same engine and verry similar trans with different final drives. There is a whole series of cars with that motor and other variations. Probe, MX6 and 626=KL03, Jspecs have the KL-ZE, lots more power. MX3 GT=KL-08. There are a few more variations but i cant remember there names. Back to the Probe and Mx-6. The suspentions are diffferent using the same hub asembly but thats it. The two cars have totally diferent wheel basses. The probe was set up for more of a sports car desighn and the MX6 has a more luxury feel. The probe was desighned by ford and the MX-6 by mozda. Ford dosnt OWN mozda only 30%. Shit ford even has stock in chevy. But yes ford and mozda do partner up for a lot of projects as do all other car comapanies. Im kinda partial to Dodges new partnership with Mecadez and their new Razor.

So you say they are similar but different, just like everyone else has.
The Mazda was actually a lot quicker in the corners than a Probe IMHO. It had pushbutton suspension settings; equivalent of soft, medium and hard. The soft setting was harder than my old tracer's stock struts and those things weren't any longer than my forearm! Massive torque steer in those things, too. Nothing you want to jump into after being with the 240 for a long period of time. In a straight line you could lose. In the twisties, their torque steer would get them in trouble, methinks.

true.. the 420a, or the df... something or other.. but niether company takes credit for the engine really. I spent 2 months with my bro hunting for that answer, and found ou... well that nobody really has an answer 100%. But it is made by DSM so it's american either way, there is nothing really mitsubishi about it... like the old dodge colts and stuff like that that shared engines with the mitsu counterparts.. now if they would have stuck the 2 liter mivec in there, that would have been sweet... 205hp, 168 torque... that would have been a much more fun neon. That is the problem with some of these engines that jump companies... sometimes it is hard to track exactly who did what to the engines.
