hi, i'm a real noob, but i want to ask for your guys' advice.
i was thinking of buying a salvaged s13 for 1000$. he says the tranny is stuck between 4/5 gear. would i need to get tranny for that specific year or would any year tranny work? that's the main problem, so he says. also, i'm concerned about the body being straight. could i check that myself? if so how would i do that? do you think it's worth buying? thanks.

you're going to hate it...Fixing the car to keep it running is a hassle, just try to not start off with a car in that sort of condition. But if your dedicated and have resources and don't mind...to each his own. I'm sure you will find decent s13's. Just keep looking at least. Trust me...I am bugged by my car's little flaws. And if you can, try and find at least the 91' and up s13's...Good luck bro.

prices in cali must be sky high... $1k for a salvaged '89 is a fucking rip off, at least out here on the east coast.
you can eyeball it to see if the frame is straight, but it'd be little more than a guestimate. you need to take it to a body shop and have them check it if you really want to know.
not worth it at all. find a clean car to buy.

Messed up in CA: 1200$
Aiiite in CA : 1500$
Clean in CA: 2500$
Yeah it's pretty messed up out here. But 5 years ago when I bought my first 240 they were teh same prices, so I guess at least they aren't depreciating :hahano:

Hah, a decent condition '89 will run you anywhere from $2500-$4000 here. i bought a '89 and had it shipped to Canada from California for $2000. This got me a rust free car with a rebuilt KA so I would say it was a pretty good deal.

dude, have you looked on craigslist nowadays for 240sx?
Talk about fucken rip off's. And more than 70% of the sellers state that it is "ready to drift". And the other sellers state that "Im not in a hurry to sell, waitin for F&F3 to come out.
Just dont get suckered into buying an overpriced piece of.

S13s are money pit. Ask anybody who owns one :)
You can still find deals out here in cali.
I picked up this gem in January with about 100k miles,
and almost everything works including the HUD (butchered stereo wiring though)
All for $500. (it was totally stock at the time)
There are still alot of these cars being used by everyday people as cheap commuters, and when they break (in this case a stripped sparkplug hole) the owners are willing to sell them for cheap instead of having to pay to have them fixed.
