Hey guys, I wanna replace my open diff with a Viscous. I just called nissan and they said they can order 2 different diffs. for my 90. One is an open diff and the other is the diff for the hicas model. Did the Visous diff. come out on a certain year??

never, i repeat never buy a vlsd from the dealer. you will be butt-raped w/o lube!

if you want a vlsd, the hicas came with vlsd. if your set on getting a vlsd, go to a junkyard and buy one cheap

I wanna go VLSD its better then open and I drive 3 hours a day(2 work then home- 2 school then home) and I think a welded/2 way might bug me with all the daily driven I do. I just went to a junk yard and there was no 240's. I saw an old Z but the output shafts were missing and I'm not even to sure if you can use the Z's pumkin. So could I use the Hicas VLSD? Did all the Hicas's come with VLSD?

For the price you pay for a VLSD (which is a terrible, terrible LSD for the price) you could be halfway to a real LSD. Get a 1.5 way, perfect for drift, drag or circuit, you'll end up buying one after you play with the VLSD anyway. I have a friend with the VLSD, it's about as lame as open diff in that it's completely unpredictable and fails to lock when heated up.

Do as you wish, but it sounds like you'll be doing a double job.

What does a dealer charge for that thing new? 500$??

here are your options:

j30 vlsd w/ 5 bolt halfshafts(axles, whatever)**
z32 vlsd w/ 5 bolt yada yada**
r32 vlsd w/ 5 bolt yada yada**
r33 vlsd w/ 5 bolt yada yada**
s13 HICAS vlsd .. no modifications needed
s14 VLSD**

**switch the back cover with your open diff.

There.. now stop posting stupid questions....This topic has been covered many many many times.

driving straight, you'll never be able to tell what kind of diff you have. what will make the difference in if you get annoyed or not is the number of tight corners you take.

That’s what I'm worried about though, I am getting a RSX as my daily driver but seeing how many cars hit the side of car a day, I think I am going my 240 for school and work parking, but I do a lot of street driving and parking at school and work so I don’t know how tired I'll get of the wheel hops and lock-ups.
