before you get all offended i drive a 240 too..ok i just swapped in a dual cam ka into a 240 and the motor is fuckin crap... seriously all of the motors ive bought so far from 240 people are crap. Whats up with that. not once have i bought a junk motor from honda people. but my first three motors were shot. two kade's and an sr20. Ka's have blown hg's, sr20 had a missing connecting rod end.. Are there that many newbies out there in this scene? Imean fuc if you dont know wats wrong with the engine then dont sell it as a good running engine. No more trusting some of you guys.

Well shit.. you shouldn't have bought it unless you check everything. Like a simple compression test would have told you everything. Its always up to the buyers to inspect the goods. What a crack dealer is dealing you up and you his crack only to know its f...ing baking soda after you snort it. And you thought it was crack because he said he was a coke dealer... Come on now.... don't blame other people for your faults.....

"Hey guys. I just turned 16 and my parents bought me a 1991 240sx. What kind of engine does it have? What do I have to do get around 300hp? I wanna drift, so what do I need to do that? Thanks. I can't wait to drive this, I'm getting my license soon!"

Woot for being in the majority! :w00t:
I've met a lot of cool people, but as it goes in So-Cal, there are a lot of SHADY SHADDDDDDDY people out there. It doesn't matter what car you deal with, California is shady. Especially down here by Riverside and LA, Honda, Nissan or any other cheap sports car.
These aren't BMW's, they aren't 30,000 dollar cars serviced by factory trained mechanics all their lives by young businessmen. They're some janky ass cheap sports cars a bunch of po' folk have owned and continue to own and beat the hell out of. Should expect nothing less.
Shady people consitute like 2% of the people I've met. I just dont let that small percentage get to me. I just deal with my crappy body panels some asswipe sold me and get on with it. Sometimes you hit sometimes you miss. That's what the reviews section is for.

Were you going and buying the cheapest ones you could find a deal on? Seriously, there are a lot of people that complain when, if they take a step back and look at it, they are the ones screwing themselves over. The sad part is it can all be avoided if you take your time and plan things out and think before you act. It's so easy to do a compression test why not do it? Even if the person just recently did one. Sucks that you hate everyone in the community just because you're lazy, huh?

if you are compalining about the people you bought the motors from, why didn't you ask around first to see if they are legit or just shady type folk. with a motor I would at least expect it to turn over and run, but why didn't you do the basic check steps like someone said earlier. No one to blame but yourself.

All the Honda motors you bought were ok, because they are honda motors.

You bought 3 engines without checking any of them out first, and you're complaining that the people who sold them suck? :cj: I got some ocean front property in Utah you should buy, just take my word that it's a great location.

hehe, so true. My nissan gives me way more trouble than my honda. Way, way more, and I beat the honda way harder. Oh well, the honda isn't rwd.

You are just getting parts from the wrong places. Go with an importer, and check their reputation first. Too many people going cheap on the motor. As for shady people, they are EVERYWHERE! Which is why you need to get a referral for a importer in your area.

04-04-2006, 07:43 PM
lmfao, didnt u ask to start the damn engines??? Blown HG's really arent too hard to fix either. But hey i think you should buy ThatGuy's ocean front property in Utah, then build a drift track, then teach 240 noobs such as yourself how to do a simple compression test, and a simple concept called life. You see if u buy cheap shit, its usually shit, and if u buy something without testing it, then u desierved to get 3 fucked engines, because u didnt take the time to care enough to check. They prolly knew shit was wrong, u just didnt ask, so they didnt tell. Easy as that

From the few owners i've meet, they've been pretty nice.
We keep the deals short, sweet, and simple.
unless your name is Simoun, and have your coilovers delivered from Walnut to Oxnard. :wiggle: JK.
But one guy was supposed to drop off rear passenger panels but forgot them when he picked up the engine (still running and awesome condition). Kept forgettin for months. And i'm still waiting. But not holding my breath.
The shady ones are the ones that lowball you for your parts. And if its still on your car, they want YOU to take it off and install it for them.
Other than that, peachykeen. :wiggle:

Anyhoo, with all the money you spent on cheap motors, you could've got one nice one (and then some). Do it right the 1st time, please.

In my opinion, if you buy something its up to you to check out whats up with it. When I sell stuff, I am up front about condition, its up to the buyer to take it or leave it. I am not forcing them to buy anything. If they buy and regret it for whatever reason they were the ones that bought it. I have looked at and turned down stuff on numerous occasions because I felt it was not good enough. Occasionally I have taken a persons word and it was not exactly right. Do I get pissed? Well hmmm, they did not tell me the truth, but I did not do my homework either. Shame on them and shame on me. I deal with it. Result, I suck it up and chalk it up to experience.
To the original poster, so you think 240 people suck hmmm, hahhahhhaha.
Thats to funny because the Honda crowd which you dearly seem to beleive in is notoriously the highest theft crowd in the country. Now they are coming over to 240's.Result? More shady people and more 240's getting stolen.
One win for you Honda crowd. HAHAHAHHAHA not!!!

ok now some of you guys are takin it way to hard. I left the honda crowd for that reason. This post was Towards the guys who lie about the condition of parts. thats all.
how can you do compression test when the motors already pulled out? would any of you buy a motor thats already been pulled? how was the experience with it so far
those of you who bought used motors, what do you look for if the motor was pulled out already. KADE motors mainly

Haha more people that don't really understand whats going on. All you have to do is a leak down test on each cylinder. You pressurize the cylinder with compressed air with the piston at TDC both valves closed, no more that 15% leak down on the gauge.
A leak down test is way better than a compression test will ever be for many reasons. Thats what I have done in the past.

Eh? a battery, flywheel and starter...
Its tru tho, 240sx crowds startin to suck. When I bought my car, the reason i bought it was to get away from the honda norm. I was really looking for a MR-2 turbo, but they're rarer than a kouki S14. When I saw an S14 for the first time, I never really knew these cars existed. Ive only seen nothing but S13s. Autotrader and voila, i found my kouki in tampa. But yah now the 240 got way too much attention. It was kinda koo for a bit until the whole "yo you drift? "You should drift it cuz its a SILVIA." "Do the SR20 JDM swap man..." Then i ask "do you drift?" "No, i drive a civic, but my mom said she'll buy me one when her tax return comes in and imma get a SKYLINE engine in it." Yah i think I should go VIP style now...GS400 with a blitz supercharger sound good.

Theres a couple ways for you to not get screwed next time.
1. Only deal with local people that you can inspect goods before you buy. Not my favorite, because it limits whats avalible to you.
2. Get in touch with them by phone. Whenever I buy something from someone I talk to them on the phone. May sound stupid, but with the internet and the shit load of shady people out there, your bound to get screwed sooner or later. Plus By talking to a person you can better grasp there understanding of what there selling you. This is the main reason why I call my sellers.
3. Only deal with people who are known on the forum, less likly to get screwed if many people have delt with the person before.
4. If you lowball someone and they accept your offer, an offer thats less than half of the original retail price, it's prally gonna be shit. Used parts are cheaper, but used QUALITY parts are still "expensive".

to the original poster: i dont care if its a fellow 240 owner or whoever... it is irresponsible to buy something like an engine without having checked it out first. hopefully you will learn for next time. its just poor business practice.
<quasirant>
while i agree that the migration of the "honda" crowd is starting to degrade the quality of the 240 community, i myself had an '89 accord hatchback before i got my 240. i never modified it, just maintained it very well, and cleaned it up. i didn't try to race it, to FWD drift it, or pimp it out. it was truly the best car i could afford on my budget back in high school, and it got me where i needed to go.
kids will be kids, and there are alot of stupid kids with ways and means i never had. but its not like i started the 240 thing. and its not like i started the drifting thing. at some point we were all newbs. i guess all we can do is hope and pray for the 240 community, and ride through ricing, FF3, and the age of our cars...

I have to say that I am on both side of the line. I did find Honda people more friendly in a sense and were really helpful, In my past incidents, zilvia people are not really the nicest folks. I did love my Integra Type-R but it got "swooped." But its ok cause I always wanted to be side ways without always using the E-Brake!!! But everyone does have a really good point, if you don’t don’t test it out, you'll never know if your screwing your self over, cause just like girls….you have to take them for a test drive, that’s why I prefer Roofies!!
