I was wondering about what they said on the FAQ on 240sx.org. It says that you can put in Altima cams for intake and 93 s13 cams for exhaust and get 248 duration for both. It says you can get 22 hp out of that. I have a few questions
How much do used cams cost?
What should I watch out for when I buy them?
Do I need special tools to install them?
Break in period?
Anyone do this swap?
Seems to me that used cams for a 22 hp gain is a pretty good deal. I plan to turbo my KA in the future so how will this effect the car under boost?

well you'll need the little shims that nissan uses for the cams....that requires a little bit of reading to understand the system......junkyard altima cams shouldnt be that much.....might be easier to just pull a head of a junkyard altima

Hey, this is one of those swaps the scca doesn't have to know about http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/avatars/smiley-evil.gif
Sounds like a good gain for cheap...almost too good to be true. I bet the guy didn't dyno before and after and is just guessing HP.

I hear you can do similar things for the SR20.. just pull the N/A cams from an SE-R and drop them in your turbo.

I am also about to do the swap on my S14. I have access to the altima intake cam as well as the 91 exhaust cam. However, I've read different opinions on the shims. Some said the shims are required to complete the swap, some said that only during the swap would I know if I need new shims(maybe just a couple, and not all 16), and then there are others that mentioned nothing about the shims. Is it possible for someone to clarify whether or not new shims are needed? If so, what size? Any info would be nice, much appreciated.

I was under the impression that new shims were only required for regind cams, like some of the ones PDM sells. Because it is a stock cam that has a smaller base circle (due to the regrind, a new billet cam should be fine) the shims supplied stock would now me a few mm too low (if that) and for proper operation need to be increased in height accordingly. Swapping in another, otherwise untouched, cam should not cause these problems, unless the altima cam has a smaller base circle as well. If I had to guess I would say it doesn't.
