Ok, so I have been doing allot of Aluminum work at work lately and I was thinking of building some parts.
Here is the prototype for my Silvia S13 headlight bracket.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/Fraz-Man-One/Prototype.gif
Main construction is 6061 aluminum 1/8in. by 1in. The feild is 1/16in.
I still have to drill mounting holes and such, I was also thinking of enlarging the holes in the feild. They are very light and stiffer than OEM, I also plan on making rights and lefts.
Let me know what you guys think.

very very nice...much better than what i have done...how much are you looking to sell for? Think about if it is worth your time cause when you think about it, the stock ones go for 50-70 bucks so if you group buy it at like 45 + s&H i think you can do quite well. whats it take 20 mins each?

Those look somewhat expensive.

Thanks for the input guys, I might do a poll to check intrest...Good idea. The first one took a little time approx 45min, but I built a jig so they could be repeated. first one always takes the longest.
As for expense looking expensive and being expensive are way different...lol I do not want to get rich i want to put out a nice quality product. Again this is a prototype so I am looking for input.

Thanks guys...I spent the day doing some refinements to the design, and ordering parts. I am not going to just drill and tap the mounting holes I am going to use thread inserts, so those are ordered.
As for other parts I am toying with a design for a all aluminum JDM bumper mount that would allow for using a FMIC.

very interesting! I thought that most jdm FMIC kits were made to fit with JDM bumper supports but required some cutting with the USDM bumper supports...

If you make parts that fit well and are lighter than OEM, you'll have a customer in me.

actually no a lot of them still need to trim the JDM bumper support. Seen lots of JDM bumper supports put on cars and seen them needed to be trimmed, just not as much as USDM.
Jonnie those are looking good. What about S15 headlight supports?
Things you have to take into account, cost of materials, time to make each one and how much you can turn them around for. Remember your time is money.
Keep up the good work.

I have an update on my custom brackets. I did a test fit today...in the rain. :-/ This is what they look like bolted up.

Please excuse the fact that I am not ready to fully do my Silvia conversion, so I was unable to bolt the bumper up yet. There will be some minor refinements to the design, but this is how they will look for the most part.
Please feel free to give me your input on these.

Thanks guys

Jonnie

Ok so far feedback has been great...Thanks guys. I am working on the second prototype now to be shipped to the test pilot early next week. Here is a pic of version 2.0
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v635/Fraz-Man-One/Version-2-bracket.jpg
In version 2.0 I used a slightly thicker material for the spine, but eliminated the back web. It turned out to be lighter, and alot easier to weld. It is also way stiffer than OEM.
I am looking into doing a group buy soon if everything pans out.

are you goin to drill in the holes for the screws once you start selling? =D

Good question...the answer is yes, Actually I am putting in nut inserts instead of just threading the bracket. I will have pics of finished brackets up tomorrow. All holes are drilled including the holes for the horn wire tie downs, and the rubber bumper on top.
Here is a pic of the finished brackets.
