When you have a lot of race engineers working together with a lot of funds good things happen =D

barely had any hp too!! 2350 for weight though

that cobalt was fast, the race was a while ago though

its a chevy factory backed cobalt, kinda unfair playing ground to the other companies, who were mostly privateer like us

they changed to new hoosiers every pit, it was ridiculous, went through like 10 sets....and they had full pit crew doing it F1 style

one of our evos raced there but we had wastegasket issues, so only came in 8th in unlimited awd

we kicked more ass at best motoring american touge

Nice job by GM. Unfortunatly for them, it still isn't enough to convince me to trade in my S13's or Evo on a new Cobalt SS.

Seriously, not giving GM another dime until their cars are reliable, looks good, and not FWD.

Makes me sad to hear this.

The only reason they did it is for PR, so now they can say the cobalt is faster than the signal skyline, etc. etc. I'd like to see a privateer do that like A Spec said... I know I'm not convinced that it's anything special, but now all the kids with cobalts will think they're even tougher shit....*sigh*

Side note: did anyone notice the only other factory backed car there? Dodge SRT-4. Didn't do too hot...guess that means Cobalt pwns SRT-4 haha....

the SRT4 wasn't ready for time attacking.

Unfair?

I think everyone bitching is forgetting the car is FWD which is inherently flawed when it comes to racing.

And I don't think a "privateer" can created something like the cyberEVO or CWest S200.

I have to agree with the assesment of the Stupid Street writers (I bought the issue to read about the time attack, which really didnt get much coverage.. bleh) when it comes to the Cobalt.

Want some cheese with that whine?

They didnt cheat, yeah they have a lot of money, big deal. They played by the rules with the resources they had available to them, and they won.

That's not cheating, thats winning.

If they dont want factory-backed teams, then the organizers shoud BAN THEM, or run a seperate class, plain and simple.

Oh and the Skyline is still faster overall, so why cry over spilled milk?

I agree with the other comments. Nice try, but still ugly and not enough to convince me that a 240 is still a better car.

got a cobalt for a rental car before... it was actually fun to drive compared to the 240.... nonetheless, to point out the flaws, the interior looked/felt cheap and it was almost impossible to see anything but the sky through the rearview mirror.

how many Cwest brand cars have you driven in the past year?

anyways, this is just like the viper in formula d, or the SRT-4's in NHRA, factory money can pay for a lot of things, but the fact is that the car is still fast. nothing wrong with that. i hope that cobalt ss owners think their cars are faster than ours, it makes it more fun to win. :2f2f:

Right, except that the Viper didn't win Formula D last season, and the drivers voted to let it in.

Rhys & Sam are factory-backed in D1GP, why can't they win D1GP? :P (Ignoring the fact that D1, unlike a time attack, is subjectively judged).

Your logic is fired

my buddy just made 260 whp in his saturn ion redline. which is really impressive since he's just maxing out his stock fuel system. all he really did to the car was put an intake, 16psi pulley and have it tuned with e-manage. he has a new fuel pump and injectors on their way. he just recieved either an 18 or 20 psi pulley (cant remember which one). but the guy that is tuning it claims he should hit 300whp this time. :tweak: like 240 torque....as flat as ohio.

with a hardly smaller than stock pulley + intake he ran a 13.99 at 101mph. but i agree, the interior is made of crap. i drove it once.... shifted to 2nd and pulled the shift knob OFF... springs were shooting all over the place, plastic shit. i broke some reverse locking mechanism. it was a mess. if you drive one, keep in mind the shift knobs are pressed on... the pull off VERY easily.

Wow.....they beat Tarzan.

Look at the other stuff they beat! M3 CSL, TT Supra, FD3S.... wow.

I dunno, I mean Chevy definitely has an advantage to a few guys putting a car together, but I don't think they have a marked advantage over someone like C-West or Signal Auto. That's a VERY impressive achievement for GM AND whoever the hell their driver is.

I mean, as stated above, doesn't mean I'll buy a Cobalt, but I also won't talk shit about them either. Apparently the chassis has potential. Not surprising, GM makes some good small car chassis. The 2nd gen Saturn sedan chassis had uber rigidity.
