i am just waiting for the tails to dry. i used krylon stained window paint its translucent 3 bucks at a hobby shop.

the following pic is a mold im working on for gauges. if anyone has any suggestions or pointers for the gauge pod let me know ive never molded anything so i need tips n tricks
im using air dry clay to get the shape and then bondo it up to smooth it out. i might use mold builder to make a better mold afterwards.

Looks good so far, camp.

Make sure to protect the finish with some clear coat.

BUT, if it was my lil project and I wanted a more profess' look and longer lasting finsh. I would've had a paint shop do those bad boys, since they have more quality supplies and more experience, but still good ,bro.

2 good coats of clear, wet sand and buff and they will look good

<s>What are you using to make that gauge cluster?</s> I know at least 1 person on the board is getting into working with carbon fiber. That would be a pretty sweet application

edit: Just noticed that you already said what you were making it out of

On the pod thingy, you could use pvc pipe to hold your guages, but you would have to build some sort of holder. But quick of my head idea, and personally I don't think it is too bad!

thats the finished project came out quite nice i will take better pics in the morning to show u how good it came out...

btw i was getting compliments at the chicago 240 meet about my wheels that i painted myself. everyone asked how much i got em powdercaoted for

on the pod im going to try and see if the body shop guys can help me make it more flush. as u can tell in the pic its just open for the time being. im waitig for the clay to harden

what i might try using is some liquid plastic casting resin i also picked up at the hobby shop. if not i know a couple of guys that wokred with c/f and fiberglass to make some custom stuff for sentra's so i'll see what they have to say about the material.

once i get this pod smoothed out and see how it turns out i have an idea for some nice single pods for a single gauge the info i will delve into further later.

Wow that looks awesome, i should show some of my projects on here, i painted my center consol silver, my ex-gf tryed to help on the ash tray but she messed up, also the dash is cracked, so i might just glue it and sand it all down and paint it again. Also i just bought a spoiler at the junk yard a few weeks back, and need to mod it for my car, ill bust out the Digi cam and show u guys some time

For gauge pods I'd do the following in f/g:
1) Spray adhesive to dash
2) Lay seran wrap down over dash
3) Mask dash area not to be glassed
4) Laydown f/g mat in thin layers to prevent shrikage
5) Remove f/g after cure
6) Locate mounting rings for gauges (mdf lexan or whatever)
7) Glue the base of the rings into place on the f/g mold
8) Stretch t-shirt mat'l over everything and paint w/ resin
9) Let cure and trim.
10) Use body-filler to smooth surface and vinyl it.
done.

I'd use fiber glass instead of carbon fiber because it's really hard to get a perfect finish w/ carbon fiber; there is NO room for error. Plus, wait till u get one of those carbon fibers in your finger, OUCH!

the S13 coupe tails have amber on them right? thats why you painted it? Because its exactly what i want to do on my S14. I was looking for a paint that is translucent and goes on pretty decent and that krylon sounds pretty good. Does krylon also make orange translucent paint? It would look sick on the S14B's corner lights...

yes s13 have amber turn sig's.

krylon might make trans orange i know ive seen translucent blue at hobby shops for models and such since this was stained glass paint im pretty sure they make other colors. a more yellow would look nice as opposed to a amber color. *shrug*

well to let u guys know ive read a bunch on c/f and fiberglass composite molding and fab'ing and such. still reading up on it found some books also, i will start making some stuff for my 240 withen the next few months and keep everyone updated.
