GP Sports Exhaust EXAS Spec R(dual tips) vs. Apexi N1 Duals
ive narrowed it down to these two exhausts. i have a 91 hatch and plan to add a t on the end of the de some where down the road. i like the dual tip look and was wondering what has a better sound, clearance, and what all of you thought about them both. ive looked into both of them and just cant make up my mind.
your opinons on them would be appricated
thanx

apex exhaust quality is very poor. mild steel, cracking welds, weighs like 40 pounds. whatever you get, dont get n1 dual.

I've personally never owned the Apex'i dual N1's. I have friends that have had them break countless times at the welds on the rear hangers.
The GPSports Spec-R is a bueatiful exhaust, but is LOUD since there are no resonators. When I'm saying it's loud, trust me man....it's LOUD. Perfect for the track but on the street it's tough. There are 3 sweet spots in the RPM band where it quiets down but I wouldn't bank on those to keep it quiet.

to verify this comment, my friend has a 3'' turbo back with the GP Sports Spec D... it is very very very loud, you hear the turbo as soon as it spools, and every little crackle and pop. so be prepared to have some angry neighbors

the N1 duals break because they are heavy, most dual systems are heavy. the gp sport is lighter the N1 dual and much louder (friend had them on an s14) IMP go with GP sports. FTW.

this makes me sad... i've been eyeing the apexi duals for so long... would there be an affordable way to custom fab these so it won't be so heavy?

yea i hear that the gps are madd loud. they dont happen to have any silencers for them or anything.....i have a friend who has manaflow exhaust on his beamer and has gotten pulled over 4 times for his exhaust. its not even that loud. at all.

Between 2000 and 2500 rpm is sweet for cruising.
Also, 3500-4000 is pretty quiet too, but that's like going 85-90 mph on the highway in 5th.
This is for GP Sports Spec D.
And yes, every shift where I compressor surge, there are many pops following the surge, and is very loud.

The Apexi N1 dual were actually louder than the single N1s, so I'd imagine the GP Sports dual would be a little louder than the GP Sports single exhausts.
And no, it's not tingy (I'm assuming you mean like the sound that I'd like to call the Bee Hives aka the Bees' buzz?).
It's very throaty, very deep sounding, even when you get on it. It sounds kinda like a domestic V8 with Flowmasters from inside the car, but less growly (as it's only a 4 cyl afterall).
The GP Sports Spec D is even louder on a friend's KA-T.

baby's exhaust isnt custom. its pre made in jland
dart izumi style.

Custom is probably the best way to go, Not to change the subject of types of cars a friend of mine who owns a Mitsubishi Starion turbo, has a custom setup, The cats removed a 2.5in straight pipe with no resonator and it doesnt sound lound like some other cars that have exhaust systems. It looks totally sleeper becasue the tip is just a chrome pepboys one and that about it, When you see the car it doesnt look like its got some dirty tricks added to it because its very well conceled. It sounds like a typical 80's piece of shitmobile on the road but its got some basic mods added to it. Custom is the way to go you save you're self some extra money.

i have the gp sports exas spec d (single tip) on my dohc ka-t s14. it is quite loud, even i was a little suprised. however, i live in nebraska home of the no-exhuast-v8-driving redneck and land of no emissions, so cops don't really harass me.
my brother has the apexi n1 (single tip) on his sohc s13 and it is pretty loud as well, not as loud though.
like mentioned before, my gp sports just has the can (resonator/muffler?) at the back and the apexi has a resonator/muffler in line and then the can out back. both sound deep and throaty, none of that cheap civic exhaust popping sound. as for quality, he has not had any trouble with his nor have i with mine. they are both pretty comparable price wise and i was going to go apexi but got a sweet deal on mine new. maybe people had a bad experience with ssautochromes "n1 style" exhaust (although, i have read pretty decent reveiws of it as well). one thing not mentioned above is ground clearance. the gp sports is advertised to hug the chassis better and it does. i have more ground clearance with the gp sports on my s14 which sits lower than my brothers s13.
sorry for the long post but these were all the questions i had when i bought mine. if i could do audio i would, but you should be able to find some links with a little searching.

ya ground clearance is definatly a factor.
i had actually heard some deseant things about the ssautochromes "n1 style". cheep and better durability than the actual n1 duals.
i saw a clip of a guy with a 180 in japan with gp exas on it...i think it was exas... but it was loud as hell, sounded nice but reall loud. around here where i live cops would hopp all over me if i had that. do they even make a silencer for it? or is there a way to custom fab one?

If you really wanted the GP sports exhausts but wanted to quiet it down, couldn't you just have an exhaust shop cut out a piece of pipping and weld a resonator on it? Not sure if it would be worth it price wise but worth the quesiton...

If you're so concerned about cops in your area do what I'm running.
I'm running a stock exhaust with a quick time performance electric cutout welded onto my downpipe.

Your car sounds stock till you flip the switch then you have a LOUD free flowing exhaust setup.

i have a silencer for my gp sports exas spec d, but have never used it so i would assume that they made silencers for the dual tip model. welding in a resonator would be a pretty feasible option or that electronic flap looks pretty cool too.
it sounds like neither the apexi or gp sports is really what you are looking for/need in a exhaust system. since quietness is such i huge factor for you i suggest going custom.
SoSideways

Yeah, the GP Sports Spec D does come with a silencer, but I've only used it like, once.
First of all, their exhaust don't come with the hole that the silencer bolt goes through, so you have to drill it yourself.
Secondly, the silencer is ever so slightly too small for the tip, thus it rattles and is really annoying.
When it was in, however, it was pretty quiet, but you do feel a loss of power from it.
After deciding that it was not worth it to have it in there, I put it away and have been rocking straight up Spec D goodness since.

cops dont really care around here, he has Never been pulled over because of loudness... i imagine it would be horrible in CA though
Um.. depends, imo its pretty sick to here the turbo spool and be so raw. It gets a little annoying/loud on some deceleration. and you better have a nice system haha
throaty definately, tingy? never heard of that, but i think not, its just raw, i think thats the best word to describe it

that actually would b a pretty sweet set up. i like the dual tip look so just go custum, by having a new tip/muffler part and then put this puppy on the downpipe. that would b a resonable alternitive. how costly is it?
also would a high flow cat affect the sound of it?
