ok, problem is as follows, the darn car wont start up. I have a clue, which has me thinking its the starter, but I want to make sure. The car is making a clicking noise from under the engine, which is on the driver's side. That is where the starter is right? So anyway, the car doesnt make any other noise, just a clicking noise like if a lighter is trying to light up but wont. Anyway, I think I described it well enough, ideas?
Thanks.

I'm assuming you already tried it, but if not make sure you try to jump start it or test it with a new battery. Might just not be gettin enough juice.
Otherwise, its probably the starter, or more likely, the starter solenoid(pretty much a relay that turns the starter on, thats what the cicking sound would be coming from probably)

get something long enough to tap the starter with to see if it will start while someone cranks. if thats the case replace ur starter. thats a kwik tell tale way u can use
but check obvious stuff first like batt. as stated above

(I didnt mention this part before, but Ill add it on now)
the funniest thing:
I left the damn foglights on and it burned out my battery, so when I went to start the car it wouldnt even TRY to start. If I tuen the key everything would just turn off. OK fine, that is the battery's fault right there. So then, I go upstairs and get my portable booster. I connect the pos and neg to the battery, try to start it up, and now all I get is the clicking noise. Now, I know the battery has juice cause after I connected the booster the power windows and lights would function. So anyway, how can I tell if the starter or the starter soleniod is messed up? What is the key method of finding out?
Another strange thing, I tried to push my car but it wont budge???? What the hell, I thought that if I put the car in neutral, I could push the damn thing, it wont budge at all. Is that a clue as to what the problem is? hmmmmmm, any help is appreciated,
and one last thing, if I can start it up by tapping the starter, what does it mean-
a)starter is messed up
b)starter solenoid is messed up
c)cannot be determine by the method
thanx

OK, well the starter pulls a lot of power, so just having the windows work doesnt necessarily mean that the battery is giving out enough power.
I would try recharging the battery overnight if you have a charger. Then try starting it again. Or try jumpstarting it and see if it goes. If it does, then you killed your battery.
As for tapping the starter, sometimes that works if the contacts in it are stuck. Never tried it on a 240, but got my buddy's old CJ to start by hitting the starter solenoid w/ a mallet as he tried to start it.
If you got a 5spd, and you can get the car to roll, you could always just pop start it.
My best guess would be its just the battery, but i dont think its expensive to replace the starter assy. Or just find one in a junkyard or from someone parting out their car(sorry, sold mine off already) real cheap
As for it not rolling, thats real strange. You got a 5spd or auto?

yup, it was just the battery. Thank god for that. I ONLY SPENT 8 BUCKS!!!!!!
woohoo, I'm so happy. I had a local mech. recharge my battery for me and when I popped it back in it started right away.
Yo, my mech. is sooooo fucking good, let me tell u exactly how I described it to him....
me: Hey whats up, my damn car wont start
mech: well, it could be a couple things... starter, battery, you'd have to bring it to me
me: well, the thing is, I can't cause it's kinda far and I don't wanna tow it or roll it over here.
mech: well, I dont know what to tell you
me: wait, what is the problem if I try to start the car and all I here is "tick, tick, tick, tick"
mech: battery
me: ok thanks, Ill bring the battery for u to recharge
I bring it to him, he recharges, I give him the money to buy a 6-pack, and install the battery and call it a day. Now thats what I call skill.
On another note: In my previous car, the fucking thing wouldn't work. Nobody could figure it out, we put it on testers, diagonstics, everything. The damn cavalier would keep turning off. I bring it to the mech(the first time I met him) and he was like "ok, pop ur hood" He then unhooked some kind of hose or vacuum or wire and asked me if the check engine sign went on, I said no. He is "computer is fucked up" And that was that, problem fixed within the hour.
