Yeah so i have a 94 SE twin cam KA and my engine idles really bad and sometimes dies while idling to much..i dont know what my car idles at since my gauge cluster is broken.. thanks

this only raises or lowers your idle. it won't steady it out.

your car idles poorly probably because it has a dirty IACV. clean it out.

many other things can contribute to a weird idle and generally a shitty running car... lots of gunk build up inside the manifold/engine, worn ignition system, bad electrical grounds, egr, etc.

FYI to adjust the idle you need to disconnect the TPS and give the engine a few revs. Then use the screw to set the idle to 650. Once the idle has been set you can adjust the base ignition timing to 20 degrees BTDC using your timing light and rotating the distributor. Once you've adjusted the idle and/or timing, plug the TPS back in and you're good to go... Unhooking the TPS is important because it stops the ECU from changing the timing or using the IACV.

You said you don't have a tach and your engine is having troubles idling (presumably, stumbling/rough idle)? I think playing with the idle adjustment screw is the last thing you need to do right now (it's not going to solve your problems, it's more for fine adjustment of idle rpm due to altitude changes).

I suggest you do a quick tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, clean MAF element, pull ECU codes, clean IACV) before you start changing things. If you post more symptoms of your problems maybe we can help you solve the real issues instead of just helping you making it worse :)

ok ill tell you all the problems

1. Starting the car cold really sucks...it dies, i have to start up the car with the gas peddle down

2. the car idles fine after the car starts up..then 5 mins later when i come to a stop it crazy idles so bad and engine shakes like no other

and if you guys could give me a list of what i should do first would be great...my dad is a mechanic so he could help me out

and do you have a pic of where the TPS is? thanks

Maybe you should download a FSM. All of this stuff is in there.

Hi, the TPS is throttle position sensor, it's attached to the side of the throttle body. But to unhook it there is a grey connector on the front of the engine just to the left (pass side) of the valve cover. Sorry no pic. Check the links in my signature and get the s13 factory service manual, it has tons of pictures and lots of information on your motor.

I would suggest doing a quick tune up (stuff listed above) and making sure you really clean out the iacv. That valve the ecu uses to bypass air around the throttle body to control the idle. It gets gunked up and can't operate properly causing the idle to jump around. There was a thread on here not too long ago detailing how you can run the motor & unhook the vac hose that goes to the IACV and squirt TB cleaner in there. That usually cleans the IACV enough to solve the jumpy idle issue for most people....

run seafoam....it can't hurt, there's a really good writeup on it on 240sxforums... i'd suggest running it through your gas and through your vacuum system.
