View Full Version : From Me to Zilvia

Well Zilvia, the time has come. You're a man now and there are things I have to tell you. No, you're not adopted. Stop interrupting.
Let me start by saying that your taste in wheels has gone downhill. I never thought you'd commit the atrocities of the showcar Civic boys, but you have. Flashy and big is in. I found an 18x11 -14 under your bed yesterday. You have no idea how disappointed I am. Why didn't you tell me your friends were pressuring you to run way more wheel than you need? You don't even use all of it! You probably don't even know about the ill effects. Worse handling, laughable braking, pathetic acceleration, more stress and wear on your suspension components... that's cause for one month of grounding. You could have talked to me, I could have pointed you in the right direction. By the way, I've seen your friends... running big heavy wheels with stock brakes. Jesus Christ boy, what are they thinking? I want you to hang with the grip rats now. Sure, they're a little rough around the edges but they have the right ideas. Luckily they're usually elitist pricks so they're easy to find. Believe it or not, though, they're willing to help.
You know what else I found under your bed? An aero kit. I didn't know you liked dressing up "like that." I wouldn't say I'm disappointed as much as I'm embarrassed. I'm embarrassed for you. What if those pictures got out? The real performance world would make you a laughing stock! It doesn't matter if you can benchpress 400 horses... that skirt sticking out past your tires overshadows it. You might as well wear a tutu.
Also, what's this addiction to all the knock-off brands? You know paying the extra money is worth it, but yet continue to buy the poorly-constructed, generic crap. Seriously, save for longer and buy the better pieces. I know you may not make much or have as little a life as I do (and you know exactly how little a life I have!) but you'll be doing yourself good. I looked through your history, saw you visited eBay. Doing some "recreational" surfing, eh?
Also, what's this I hear about you upgrading power before anything else? Yeah, I heard about that. Let's just say a little birdie saw you put an SR with bolt-ons into your stock-suspended hatch with all-seasons.
Seriously, though... I'm getting more and more disgusted by the cars turned out by some of you. It's like you saw performance at the end of the tunnel so promptly crashed into the nearest wall of fad. Drifting was destined to fall into this abyss so I suppose I'm not really all that surprised but still... it's like I have to trek for miles just to find someone who hasn't slammed their S-chassis to the ground but doesn't give a rat's ass because "hey, it drifts GREAT." Yeah, drifts great until you hit a bump and skitter right into the nearest tree/rock/curb/parked car/telephone pole/dead hooker.
I can't be the only person out here who feels this way at times...

i build it because i like it.
his opinion on my car means as much as anyone elses, i dont care. i dont ask for opinions what to do. i know what i want and do it.
for most of what he said i agree. and if u read what he said, my car isnt that way anyways. actually none of his comments reflect my car at all.

I agree fully with Aaron, my car is for me. I am not going to sell my car just because there are to many honda kiddies running around wanting drift machines. I built it for me and its a work in progress. If I do sell it it will be because someone offered me the right amount of cash to say by and build another one. I love these cars they are a blast to drive. Much like when I bought my first 240Z, I will buy another one, one of these days. So it is with my 240sx.
I do not follow trends. Though I do sometimes wind up in them, usually after I have started doing that particular thing, i.e. I find myself doing it long before terms are coined.
When I first bought a Datsun 510 in high school it was because it was a fun car to drive. The 510 scene was alive but had not blown up yet. Within a few years it was at full steam and I was in the middle of it. Of course at that point I did go buy a 240Z but I saw that as an extension of the whole theme(to me).
Datsuns/Nissans I love them period. I am not asking for anyones approval in the end. I am just doing stuff I want to do the way I want to do it.
The only thing I can add is sometimes some of you worry to much about what the other guy is doing.
There is always going to be , idiots, ricers, people that you don't agree with or approve of, thats life!
Concentrate on your stuff. If you are so concerned as to what the other guys are doing, that it causes you to say you want out, then your not here for the right reason. In the end it comes down to this. You bought your car because you like driving it, be it sideways or whatever and you like it. If you bought it because thats what the other guy is doing you need to look at yourself.

I got knockoff wheels coming in the mail. Big ones.
I have ebay knockoff taillights.
My suspension sucks.
I scrape on the freeway reflectors.
I have a stock body.
I have power mods from MEGAN RACING.
I dream of Version Select aero that is wider than my wheels.
I do follow trends.
But you know what, I don't give a damn. The money I saved goes to tires + events. Both "grip" and drift events. Sure I can save up for 2 months to buy a good turbo manifold. Or I can scrape up change in my couch and buy an entire Megan Racing setup and get my ass to the track with the pennies in the ashtray. I'd rather be a soft driver, than a hard parker.
So I say nay. Nay to your post sir. :mephfawk:
Hah, but it's all good. Build a nice car and be broke, or build a crappy car and be at the track, and broke. If I had the money, i'd have a perfectly built car with name brands, but I don't.

hey remember when not all of us were 17 and still in high school?
i have a degree and a career, and i can afford to have a nice looking car with brakes, suspension, cage, engine, etc etc... and still blow money on wheels that are big and chrome and body kits and hoods. so why not have a unique nice looking car? i like my car to look nice, it makes me feel good and i take pride in the way it looks.
what about the flip side of your coin? i think zenki lip cars with 16x8" mesh wheels or 17x9" FN's look like garbage... so what... do whatever makes you happy homie. and buying authentic shit is stupid when it comes to simple parts? an exhaust is just a metal pipe... why spend $600 instead of $300? why buy a $800 body kit when Im already on my second one cause of a smashy at the track? these cost $300 each, so i dont feel like an assclown when i break it. i've been to more events than 90% of the people on this entire board, so cry me a river. this appears to be nothing more than a sour boy bitter about not being let into the tree house.

Easy people.. it was a joke. And it was hella funny! We all have some e-bay shit and buy "budget" stuff once in a while.
Shit, I did power, brakes, and now I'm getting to suspension and I know it was dumb. But I still laughed. I have an APC air filter. "OOOHHH NOOOESS" hahaha and my steering wheel is E-bay! *GASP* Eww... and I used to have aero. (nasty ricer stage)
The thread was still funny as shit!!. Don't take it personal.
TheSquidd
02-23-2006, 11:59 AM
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I took it personally, I just like providing a counter-point to the assumption that we buy cheap parts because we think they're as good as the name brand stuff.
I just don't have that kind of money and if I have to choose between saving my small check to get a single DEFI gauge, or going to 3 events with that money, I'd take the event.
But yes, joke, was funny. :ughug:

I have to trek for miles just to find someone who hasn't slammed their S-chassis to the ground but doesn't give a rat's ass because "hey, it drifts GREAT."
haha.. I agree completely. there are only a couple of people's cars or builds that I even bother to look at. Nobody ever questions why they do something to their car. They just do it because its what everybody else does or what everybody else buys. I have no idea what coilovers to purchase mainly because I can't find any feedback on the internet from a good source. Lots of feed back about, "wow the ride is bumpy now, and it drifts great" super! I want it to stick and I don't want the weight of the car to slop around. I don't want the rear end to slip, I want it to stick. Not going as fast if I'm spinning my tires. And seats and harnesses. Don't even waste you time and money if you're not going to do it right. Get a real rollbar and real seats and real harnesses and connect/weld everything correctly. don't bolt the harness to the floor. its cheaper than a cage but not safe at all.

For most of us there is a balance between knockoffs and authentic parts. Only the very lucky amongst us can have it all. The rest of us have to make do with whatever means we have to achieve the end we desire. Its important to not lose sight of our personal visions of the end result b/c its easy to get caught up in cheap and flashy parts. I'm one of the lucky ones so I get all JDM, but do what you gotta do to achieve your own personal level of greatness, not tasteless.

+ 1 for teh weld locd.
Anyways. Good points.
But i have aero, and big wheels. But when my bumper falls off, i just keep drifting, hoping it will gain more battle scars. If you see my car in person it is fucked up. cosmetically.
So whats wrong with running those things, if you use them?

Ok ok, you got a real point there.
I didn't scimp at all on safety equipment (not that you have to, good stuff is usually cheaper than the cheap stuff! OMGLOLZ!)
All my safety equipment, down to the gloves are SCCA/FIA approved. There's just some shit you don't cut corners on. But aero? Gimme dat fiberglass knockoff all day! I'm just gonna run it over anyway. If I really wanted to do things RIGHT, I wouldn't have bought a 240sx in the first place!

Ha that was a good read!
To each, their own... its not about what other people think, its about what you want to do with your car and what makes you happy. Just because some kid puts some weak offset wheels on his car or cheap aero, so what? That makes him happy like Works make me happy. Do what you want, because its your money, not anyone elses.

Dousan's car is exactly what I'm talking about as far as aero is concerned but you know what? He tracks the damn thing a lot. It's his car and he did what he likes and at the end of the day, that's what makes me respect him. Same with Maeda and chmercer and anyone else wearing the glitter or a big kit who actually gets out there. I'll respect any one of them much more than some person who buys functional parts and trailers their car to shows or doesn't go to track days.
This is just my opinion, and opinions are like eyelids: everyone has them and they help wash dirt off the mucous membrane surrounding one of our most vital organs.
Oh, and another word about the cheap parts: parts that are manufactured well are not cheap. The two qualities cannot go together. Wouldn't you rather do it once and do it right than do it wrong once, crash because of a failure, do it wrong again, and die in a huge fireball which engulfs several bystanders, creating a GTA-like scenario in which cauliflowers of flame bounce around from one person to another until the entire city is burning? You know what? I shouldn't post this late at night for the sanity of others.
