when you jerk your wheel back and forth at a fast pace, and there is a dead spot in its rotation....are you dealing with a bad rack, or a bad power steering pump. If I do It slow like, it feels normal, but back and forth quickly, like when you wanna warm your tires up, theres a dead spot.
kinda thread jacking but not really cause.....well, you can see why.

to the hub? then his spindle is broken, not the rack.
or the tie rod is busted
remove and replace.
i recommend taking your car to a mechanic.

Uhhhh, yea dude, thats the inner tie-rod. count threads on the old tierod, put new tierod on, try to ball park it, take it to get aligned. though a mechanic wouldn't be a bad idea if you couldn't see that

i recommended a mechanic because u dont know what u are talking about
im a prick.
yeah just change the tie rod. costs like 20 bucks or something.
takes 10 mins to change. super easy
get alignment and back on the road in no time
swapping steering racks, at this point, would be stupid
now if there is STILL problems w/ turning and the rack is noisy, dead, leaking etc then change racks
for now change that rod and be on your merry way.
do some burnouts for celebration.

install suspension technique's steering rack bushings while your at it. =D , if its a s13, get a steering bushing eliminator too, makes the steering feel really nice.

Hey threadjacker, I have a similar issue when my PS fluid is low. I notice after I refill and/or bleed my resivoir that it gets a lot smoother. Try jacking your car and bleeding/refilling your PS resivoir?
