SR20det.. how to get to TDC

I need to know how to get the SR20det to TDC. CAn i just turn the crank until the ____ mark?

TDC stands for top dead center. It ususally refers to the piston. All the pistons are in different positions so it would be best if you specified which piston. When in terms of timing a motor, you want the first piston to be at TDC. I'm assuming thats what you mean so here is how to do so. You will need a 27mm socket to turn the crank. There are mating marks that you can match up. There are 4 i believe. You want the reference dot to be lined up with the 2nd dot from the left. I hope that was clear.

Pull out your spark plugs as well, makes turning the motor over much easier =)
I dare you to turn it over while its in gear with no parking brake!

Number one piston. So the turning the crank with the 27 mm socket will get the #1 piston at TDC?

yeah but you are gonna want #1 piston at tdc on the compression stroke if you are concerned with timing. What are you needing to set the motor at top dead center for? that would help everyone tell you how to do it. There is 2 tdc's for piston #1 in one complete combustion cycle. If you are pulling the valve cover off there is a mark on the timing gears. Hopefully this helps

Im installing the new CAS. I know everyones gonna say ohh you have to take the valve cover off but you dont. A friend of mine put my new one in without taking valve cover off. I wasent there to watch though.

You are right, you don't. Only if you want to verify that it is correct.

well, or if you want to keep pulling it out and turning it one tooth over until you get it right. :P

To install the CAS... pull the valve cover off... turn the main pulley to the TDC mark (the second one from the left) and then look at your camshafts. Your cam lobes should be pointing away from eachother (on your number 1 cylinder.. assuming your camshafts are timed right).... If they dont point outwards... rotate the pulley 360 degrees... then you will be on TDC on your compression stroke.

Now that you have the motor set to TDC properly... take the CAS... and align it so when you push it in... the alignment marks on the CAS line up. Plug it in... start the car... and stick a timing gun on it to make sure you are sitting at 15 degrees advance.. and voila! =D
