S13 seats w/ 4/5pt harness and cage?

Anyone done it? Any safety concerns? Been thinking about putting a cage in my car, but I will need a harness. I daily drive my car (about 2000-2500 miles per month) so I sould prefer to keep the stock seats, because I don't feel like buying other seats right now.

Any opinions on the safety by QUALIFIED (ie: real track experience with setup) or pictures would be great.

the stock S13 seats aren't exactly the best seats to do this with; they're not bolstered enough. But if you feel that they hold you well enough, go ahead. Try other seats though, and see what you think

Daily driving a car with a cage? Get ready to get some bumps on your head, Also just for your info even though yo got a harness you still got to wear your seatbelt. At least that the law in cali.

I figured some padding hill help with the cage, but it will be custom so I can get it as far as possable from me.

Oh, and there is basically no law for my car.

I was driving with just a harness and my Chargespeed seat and I got pulled over. Right when he got to my window, he let me go. I was wearing a red shirt that day, and my red Sparco harnesses blended in with my shirt. He pulled me over because he thought I wasn't wearing any seatbelts.

I have a harness on my s14 seat in my s13, and its OK. However, I never planned on this being a permanent setup. In a bad accident harnesses are a BAD idea on stock seats. A seat without proper harness strap holes and back bracing will buckle in a hard accident and transfer all of that force to your spine.

Let me tell you, a compressed spine is not fun at all. And i'm sure a compressed spine is what you'll get if youre lucky and dont end up with a broken back or some other horrendous debilitating injury.

So... I would say don't do it on stock seats, s13 seats especially. S13 seats are floppy and weak compared to s14 seats, which aren't a great seat to have have a harness on either, from what I have to say about my current temporary setup.

The legality of not wearing a factory seatbelt is probably something you wont have to worry about, but a cop could probably nail you on it if you were unlucky.

i got that same set up in my car, its alright, except if yo uare tall the seats dun go back that far. i am 5'6'' and i can fit 5'10'' in mine no problem. the seats are cool. i would change to LE seats though casue they are a lil more sturdy and stronger cause the backs dun break easily. 4-5pt harness. jsut make sure it is 3". you should like i. i like it. Hella people turn heads cause they never seen a cage in VERT before

In terms of getting pulled over. most cops think it is much safer as long as you are not doing stupid sshit, they will let you go. on your cage, the harness will mount about 3-5 inches under your shoulders because there is a harness bar.

I think it is an all around safe route, the only time to worry about stock seats and harness is if you mount more than 90 degrees from your shoulders, however i really advise not even close to 90 degrees. i would say no less than 5 inchse below your shoulder cause compressed spine would suck alot. If ylu ahve any questions or need hooks ups let me know. Auto power made my cage custom for hella cheap cause the convertible s13 is much narrower inside.

Why not just wear your seat belt when daily driving?


If it's a street car and you're EVER going to be driving it in traffic without a helmet on, I'd suggest just getting a roll bar. There's too much risk associated with having thick steel bars inches from your head. What if you get side swiped? There's a great chance you're gonna split your mellon on your "safety" device.

Ugh, same shit, different day, will people stop acting like its the worse thing in the world to daily drive with a cage! Jeez, its like as soon as one person says it everyone chimes in with the same thing...



That being said, I do agree its a horrible idea to do so with stock seats. I would never want to be close to my cage if i didn't have a full bucket! Track or Street. In fact, i wouldn't even like driving the car! Period. Stock seats suck, ESPECAILLY when its a track car and EVEN MORE SO when its got a cage! And you've got to be mentally challenged to drive a caged car with stock seats on the street!



As far as buckets not being comfortable... good ones are. Bride: Zeta II, Zeta III, Vios III. Better: Recaro SPG! Fucking awesome bucket seat and can be found not too expensive... My suggestion of mods, after LSD is Bucket Seat, helps you have control of the car so much better!

damn, im glad someone brought this up... i had planned on running 4 point sparcos on stock seats :-/ Ill have to look into getting some good seats before the harnesses

what do you guys bolt the seatbelts into? i've seen people using the rear seatbelt bolt-in spots for them. Anyone had experience with mazworks harness bars?
