ok, so i was really bored tonight, and i started to clean my engine, and i know that some of my bolts arn't tightend enough, 'cause oil leaks out from where the bolts are. so i'm tightening them, and BAMN! one snaps, what do i do now
as demonstrated in the pic, my engine is very clean, but the bolt seems to be missing, 'casue the top part snapped off, and the thread is still inside...

tsk tsk tsk <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/butbut.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':but:'>
the reason ur leaking oil from ur valve cover is cause u need a new gasket! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
not to retighten the bolts.
what u need to do now is see if u can use a chisel and hammer to try and get the bolt out. (i hope u understand what i mean b that) try to get the remaining thread out by untightening it using the chisel.
if not drill out the hole and u need to get some helicoil.
ohh and next time the tighter something is doesnt mean the better it is <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> get a torque wrench if u dont know when to say when. hope u fix it bruh <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

You know, my first instinct would be to laugh, but since you have a 240, I will sustain myself...
On that note, go get yourself some punches and chisels, rent a drill somewhere, buy a tap and die set, and get yourself a new valve cover gasket as well as a new bolt.
Good luck!

dont feel too bad
we all learn from our mistakes.
i remember two years ago i was changing valve springs in my integra until i forgot to move that piston up and dropped a valve right into the cylinder. i then had to rip off the head to get it. what 2hr job resulted in a 2day job

now how much should u torque these guys?

I really wouldn't do that. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> Bolts are as long as they are for a reason...
If you got a hole in the bolt... try one of these: X-Out Damaged Screw Remover (http://www.aldn.com/x-outscrews/x-out_screw_remover.htm)

gaskets are $16.00 from nissan. remember, don't overtorque valve cover bolts. should be only 8-11 ft lbs. use a torque wrench.

is this a simple remove the bolts, valve cover, change gasket, replace valve cover and bolts and torque down in this order? or is there a lot more to it...

Heres something I learned on my last car (86 accord). Those bolts would only tighten down so far, then they bottom out and wont go any further, so Im sure this is why it broke. To "cheat" and get the valve cover to compress the leaky gasket even more, try putting a thin washer under that bolt. This would only be a temporary fix, but it would buy you some time. Also....get a torque wrench and a FSM.
