View Full Version : Am I being UNFAIR? or is my friend UNGRATEFUL TO THE MAX

OK so heres the story...

I told my friend I'd help install a Greddy Turbo kit w/ a intercooler kit in his 1999 INTEGRA. So heres how it goes...

I did all the purchasing and shit... for the past few weeks. and then... here we go for the install...

The week before, wired blue box and injectors. He ran super rich that week and it made the valves / plugs super dirty.... more later down...

I spent all night Friday 2/10 and all day Saturday... from 11:30pm - 1:30am...
He opted to help (doesn't know what socket wrenches are or wrenches or anything really, but im teh same way about computers and hes a genious at it..) anyway, spent ALL DAY working at that crap ALL DAY.... basically on my own... He says to his brother " I can't play ball (the time is about 3:30pm, he can't finish this on his own... he needs my help").. I am thinking .. :loco:

I did a ton of rechecking the ECU wiring and re soldered the injectors and etc. etc.

So today, I start it up and it throws the "random misfire code" i figure it was runing rich and carbon all over the place is causing it... so I poured some system cleaner in teh tank and sprayed the throttle w/ cleaner for a quick clean :Ownedd:

POW! worked liek a charm...

My friends mom was there adn said WOW, you sould pay him for all the work hes doing... 2 days... thats a lot... He said,!!!!... " I bought him lunch and dinner yesterday, I am paying him." <5.00 little caesars pizza and Ramen noodles from a restaraunt... 5.50.> and I bought my own soda...

Same day today, i ask him to pick up some books from a teachers bookstore for me.. 2 books... cost 8.00... I told him he owed me 15.00 bucks for the crap I just bought at autozone to clean his shit out...

The defendant states: "Well, I bought your books... so we'll call it even."

HOLY MUTHER F'er....

Maybe its my fault for putting myself out there to help.. but GOSH DAMN.... WTF is that about?

I have 300.00 of his dollars to help buy his exhaust... I think i'm going to keep it.. ha! 300 is cheese for all the damn work I did I'd say...

or would that make me a thief? and a bad friend : (

Thanks for listening... I feel much better.

your friend sucks...

Even though you spent a lot of time on the kit, atleast you got some wrench time and fresh air.

If you never flatly stated that you were charging him, then you would be wrong to keep his dough... He is, on the other hand, quite a jerk for not having offered you much more than 15-20 bucks worth of food for the work you'd done.

... this leaves us with but one choice, we must KILL your friend. Does he have a girlfriend or something I can take advantage of and catch on the rebound after he's gone?

This is why I won't help anyone with their mechanical problems unless they are a very good friend. I had too many "I really need your help" phone calls and WAY TOO MANY "Sorry man, I'd love to help you out but I can't because....." answers when I needed help.

Lol. I hate mixing friends with money. Computer work i can do it for free because shit im a hacker i can install winblows and put about $5000 bucks of software for under 1 hour and do it for free. I hesitate more taking out the trash off my house than to code a whole web site in php/sql.

Car work, it depends. I wouldnt even think about installing a turbo kit in someone who does not even know what lean and rich fuel mixture is. If i did, i know im gonna spend the rest of my life helping my friend with a grip of car problems. Then when the engine blows who is it to blame?

Shit.. make him sign a contract. What if the car got some weird problem? Bet you he flip out. You should get some cash for the risk your taking.

Fucking hate it when i lend out small amounts of money then a friend says "aint we even from that time?". Shit! what time the time i gave you gas money or i paid for your club entrance and you just sorta forgot about it.

I try my best to not mix friends and money but damn theres some broke ass mofos these days.

chalk it up as a learning experiance. Be the bigger man give him his money for his exhaust or whatever, and be a little too busy next time he needs help with his car. If my friends need somthing and I can spare it, it is theirs. I do not expect it in return, but it usually works out. Haven't you ever heard "Give and you shall recieve." If you think about it your friend is in the wrong now, but if you take his money that will put you in the wrong.

learn to deal with it is all i can say. be the bigger man and give him his money but dont help him out in the future.

i helped a buddy out with his 240 for a good portion of a summer, he comes over maybe once a week to eat, and i go outta my way to pick him up to go breakdancing twice a week at least. whats he do for me sell the 240 (all my hard work gone), never call me to do anything (kinda rude), and hes never paid me a dime for gas (WTF)

but yeah just learn to deal with it. or like phillip says "kill him"

i hate people like this, their parent didnt brought them up correctly. sorry to hear such a shady stories, but i am pretty sure that he will come back to beg you to fix more shits later.

I usually just offer my friends that i will pay them labors by hours. this will make everything easier.....it is fair and i still save tons of money on labor instead just send my car to shop.

Yeah when it comes down to shit like this, you really find out who your friends are. Take it as a learning experience and as having fun by working on his car. But in the end, itll teach you the importance of what a "friend" really is.

LOL.. we all have friends like that. I helped a 'friend' once install brakes on his 240sx. I had him do all the dirty work until he got frustrated. I finished for him and as soon as it was done he's like "ok.. gotta go.. there's a party I'm invited to". No offer for food or shit, got left with just grease stains. Learned my lesson.

yeah man.. i helped this retarded ex friend of mine install a 1jz into his supra and i wired up all his shit while he sat back and smoked.... but he offered some cash or somthing for my car (his mom has money) before the install.... but anyways.. on the last night.. he got the munchies went to the frig. and left the door open... i heard his mom say somthing about getting me strut tower bars or sway bars for my car (it was the thought that counts) and he said "nah... he isnt doing anything really.. im doing all the work":mephfawk: :mephfawk: :mephfawk: :mephfawk: that mother fucker i was about done with his wiring... and it all checked out fine.. worked perfect.... all he did was smoke and eat while i did the damn swap.... but when he went to bed that night while i was still working on it... i helped my self to hks solenoid that was required to operate his boost controler... and some misc. stuff that i could use and stuff that made his life alot harder to operate aftermarket guages.... and re wired his chassis and engine harness to were the colors will not matched to alot of his stuff from wiring diagrams(stuff he could tap into for a power source that he told me he was going to do before) and made it damn near imposible for his guage cluster to operate...

and of course... before i left i wired his horn to his brake light switch and never spoke to him again....

about a week. It was my friend first motor swap into a civic. But the guy who rigged the horn to the vtec did like countless swap and into honda for like ages. My friend who got played thought his exhuast was loud, and setting off alarms everytime he hit vtec. He figured it out when he went on the highway and was like what alarm is that (there no parked cars on the hightway).

horn/wiring/relay hidden under bumper reinforcement, wiring tap from under the battery tray and follow along stock wire loom. Hard to see.
