My strut is totally gone.. it makes really strange noise
and make big noise just running smooth(?) road. it doen's work at all...!!! I guess...
I need to replace it asap since it's my one and only car.
What will be the best combo to replace OEM spring and strut?
I'll drive bumpy chicago road everyday in snow. rain. etc..
lowering about 1 inch is okay.
Please give me good advice.. before my car broken down.
P.S. Cheaper is better <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

Higher lower springs would be the Tokico and H&Rs at 1" and 1.3" respectively. Both are linear iirc, and I believe the H&Rs are a bit stiffer of the two, but that's expected for a lower spring. Either will run about $230. As far as shocks go, most folks like KYB's AGX adjustable shocks, around $450 for all four corners. If cost is an issue, you could go down to the KYB GR2s or Tokico PPs, a set of GR2s will prolly run around $250, pps $360 or so.
Anybody know of places with good prices or specials on AGX?

It's an s14 - no AGXs are available. Cheapest adjustable unit would be Konis at $500+/set. GR2's it is (they are a decent OEM replacement)
As for spings, I'd recommend Eibach Pro-Kits. Not too stiff. A little lower. Progressive rates, so they don't kill your kidneys. (I thought the H&Rs were progressive too?).

Do they have Tokiko spring for s14 (1996)?
I checked the web site.. i couldn't find one.
Is there any differenct between H&R spring and Eibach Pro?
and I don't think i can install this by myself..
do u think any mechanic can handle this job?
Tokiko pp + Eibach Pro or H&R
final question is where will be the best place to buy this items.
anybody know good installer in chicago+notrh surburb area?

I e-mailed to my local performance shop..
they said
Tokiko Strut F $144 each
R $ 99.95 each
Eibach Pro $264.00
Total Labor $225
It's quite pricy isn't it??

is it a good idea to use gr2 with sportline? (will the gr2's die fast?)
HippoSleek

jeff - yes, the GR2 will die fast w/ Sportlines. Too low for that strut, so it will bottom.
rookie: not the deal I would take! Changing suspension stuff isn't hard at all. A few wrenches and about 5 hours - if you know nothing about what you are doing! W/ practice, you can do a whole suspension in about 1 hour (which is also why that labor rate it too high). What kind of shocks/struts are those? Not Tok HTS? For $50 more, you can get Koni Yellows, which are fully adjustable and much better quality ($154/116 - F/R). GR2s go for $88/53. Prokits are $225. (These prices all from Tirerack.com).
The way I see it, you could afford to buy the tools and the parts, do it yourself, and save $400!

just in case anyone might run into the same problem i did, u might wanna try lookin for pro-kits at tirerack.com. they're like the only place that has them, for the s13 at least.
Ian at lost projects has 'em, too, but i ain't got no fax machine to fax with (hehe).
that place also has the AGX's for a prty reasonable price, like $396 altogether not including shipping. they ain't gonna charge u tax, either.
u could also look at modacar.com. they have suspension packages for 240sx's (S13 & S14) with either koni yellow's or AGX's. it's only with sportlines, tho.

Excellent choice. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
Koni Yellows are a cartrige replacement instead of a full strut. There is install info at 240sx.org (and several people on here who have done it and on FA). Not as easy as a full strut, but not hard at all. The rear just bolts right together. Just pay attention when you take the old ones apart and put the new ones in the same way really (first time I did a susp. we had no directions at all!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>.
The only adjustment is that you will want to get an alignment after ANY suspension work (let the springs settle for a week or two first).
Just post back when you are ready to install.

Tein sells springs for the S13 and S14 for $130 a set and they are availible in soft medium and hard which means that you can choose your spring rate which is a lot better than any other after market spring manufacture offers for no coilover. Neishlinmotors can get them for you www.neishlinmotors.com or MotoRex who also can get them.

I got parts today!! yeah!!
but there's one thing that i don't understand..
In Eibach springs Installation Tips paper.
It says 240sx 95> (I don't understand this.. is that means before 95 or after 95) need to Trim front bump stop by 25mm (1 inch). If i have 96model. Do i have to cut? or not?
If anybody know about it.. plz tell me..

It means years 95 and up. Yes - trim it just like they say too. Otherwise, with the lowered springs, you may come into contact with it too soon.
