Ok so I know this was by far the stupidest thing I cna do for my car ..... and for my self. but as noone seemed to expect. My car was painted and so was the engine bay since the Engine was out. but anyway I took off the placard that has the VIN number and all that fun stuff from the firewall because I wanted to rivot it somewhere lese in the engine bay..... and then I lost it. I've looked everyehwere for it and no luck. what can I do about this? :sadwavey:

Well, relocating your VIN is illegal in the first place, so I guess the only thing you can do is take your car to a state referee and have them issue a new VIN number.

the VIN number is like 4 other places on the car. I dont see why it would be that big of deal to have that one on your firewall. I pulled mine off and put the one from my clip on my firewall. I dunno though.

Guess you're really fucked when you get pulled over then. Illegal engine, and without the VIN plate they are liable to think the car is stolen property or something. Have fun with those hassles. :duh:

yea thats not a good thing. how did you manage to loose that shit, its pretty important. the vin # is on the registration, so even if you were to get one from another car (junkyard) they wouldnt match. That would be your best bet though, if you cannot find it.....get one from a junkyard to take the place of the other one physically, and keep your fingers crossed.

Not too big of a deal, the actual VIN of the car is inscribed into the firewall right next to where your VIN plate was. So when you get pulled over you can explain why the VIN was taken off, but good luck explaining the nice shinny piping going all over the place

I almost had my car towed because the dash VIN wasnt attached *previous owner swapped the dash and forgot to rivet the VIN back on*

From a LEO standpoint - best of luck with the cops. We tend to be VERY big assholes when we see a cut VIN. Just be calm, explain yourself, and hope the LEO has a good heart.

no unfortunately not. That was attached on the assembly line. It was made there. You cannot get a replacement one for the engine bay. you can get replacement door sill stickers. Though it is true you are fucked. It does not matter that the vin number is stamped into the body next it. Its not only a state offense to remove its quite possibly federal offense. The cars cannot enter the country without those vin plates therefor if yours is missing you are in trouble. Most cops immediately think stolen vehicle and the next step is impound the car.
