I just got my car estimated for some body work and paint. They are going to fix all the minor dents and align the hood and fenders. The paint is going to be a 3 stage pearl white paint job. They are asking $1500 i was wondering if this was a good price.

Sounds about right for my area. Not sure what the going rate is in Cali, though.

California prices are usually a lot higher than that, so I would be leary of the quality. Try to get references or at least see samples of their work -- preferably dark-colored cars so that you can see how well they do bodywork and and finishwork.

That's a great price. Especially for a pearl white stage 3. The maaco here (great management and paint service might i add) charged me about 1000 for all prep work: minor dents, cracks, side marker removal and spoiler removal, plus a stage 3 black that was basically flawless. 1500 prep and paint at your shop should even be a greater quality and shine. Make sure you look at some before/after cars and research the shop.

wow 1500 is a good deal... a average price around here is 2500 for a stage 2 paint job...

Deng you guys pay a lot for paint... I just bought some bondo for $10, sandpaper from my old woodshop class, and about 4 hours of my time and fixed all my dents. Used zipties to "custom" align my bumper and driver fender... primered the car, then sent it to earl schieb for a $500 paint job. It shines great, and comes with a 6 year warantee so I'm happy.
Just thought I'd throw that out there as a cheap alternative for someone who has the time to do some body work

Well im located in southern california, but if you guys are from around here and have seen the Juan Pollo lowrider the guy who painted the flames on that car is going to paint my car. He is known for doing mostly lowriders and ghost flames. I have seen the work he has done and they all have turned out very nice. So $1500 is a good price then?

for stage 3, i'd say so... and if they're doing all the prep work, fixing dents and dings which you can probably do yourself, but heck, if they're doing it all for 1500 and you've seen the work, then go for it

WTF is stage 1 2 or 3 paintjobs?
Never heard of it... Please explain the difference. thanks!
I'm assuming 1 is just a paint/clear mixed in one
2 is paint, and then clear?
but what is 3??

paint then a coat of paint on top of that to add shine, gloss, or a peral affect, then clear.

3 stages come out really nice but are a pain in the ass.ive done some pretty sweet pearl jobs on some customers cars...but we charge a big tag for that kinda of custom work.some people use 3 stage to blend and make unique colors.like blending a bright color for the base and a adjacent color for the top coat.just hope that they actually pulls some dents out and heat shrink them instead applyin more filler over it.
