Just had to talk about my day. It started off so cool. Got in my car and went to school and had rained and was just sprinkling. My car was so fun to drive. I burnned across one stop signed intersection(i live out in the country so no cars around when i did it.) I did another burn from a stop through an intersection and shifted into 2nd with out loosing the burn and best of all little tire loss because of the wet roads! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> I also tryed one sharp turn and the car got a little more sideways then i wanted but still recoverable and the next time i tryed i did a real nice slide sideways. Not bad for just driving the car for less then 2 weeks(and before i get flames for trying that with less then 2 weeks, the 2 weeks is in my open diff 240 and before that i had 2.5 years in '66 ford pickup RWD with LSD) It was most interesting feeling the difference between an open diff and a LSD.
Cliffnotes: Rained..wet roads... fun driving
longer cliffnotes: wet roads + rain + cool car = burnout through 2 intersections and one burnout through 2nd gear! got sideway... got sideways again but better <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hehe.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hehe:'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

wow, the rain... there was 202 accident from 5am to 9am in LA today...
talking 'bout rain, it's always fun to go down to my local parking lot @ night (empty), and do donuts and have fun w/ losing traction
and lastly, i have to say, i've lost my rear and ended up sideways across 2 lanes before after a turn in the rain.
and another time, i had the music up (in the rain), and i strted to accelerate, and i broke traction @ 2nd gear, but i didn't notice, i thought i just missed 2nd gear, and left myself in nutral, but i notice the spedometer climbing, so i floored it, and than i realized what i was doing, while i was at it, i switched to 3rd and floored it, and i'm reading 70mph while moving like 20mph, than i ened up sideways across a 3 lane road... gladly there's not car
cliff note:rain + rwd is fun, know your limits

It rained like the second day I got my 240 and no one ever told me to watch it or anything (I didn't know much about FR cause nobody I knew had a vehicle with it).... so I found out on my own when I gave it a little gas making a right and lost traction.. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cry.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> was kinda scary, but mostly fun! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Well let's call it a technical term of "powersliding".... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
it got basic ford escort lx susp <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
lol... trying to drift that thing is damn scary. on dry roads it wants to roll over at speeds >20mph.... Rain is fine up to about 40-45 though. so rain rulzzzzzzzzz <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

i'm not a BIACH member, but i believe in it's ideals. and you can't powerslide in a fwd car. powersliding is when you swing the tail out because you're on the throttle too much and the tires are trying to use their grip for acceleration and cornering, which in the rain doesn't take much. in a fwd, getting on the gas actually make the rear grab better than the front, hence the plowing effect or most fwd cars.

wha? now i'm confused. in the long dead discussion of what the fuck drifting, "drifting" and powersliding were, as i undestood you can't drift the fwd, but you can powerslide it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> wrong?
Anyways, i'm not exactly a curb humper cuz this only happens on rainy nights in a huge ass parking lot that belongs to some warehouse... Noone is around there 2-3am in the morning, and the closest house is like 10 minutes away (assuming you drive).
P.S. i know how each one works by now <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> just confused with terms....

as far as i know, the main way to induce oversteer (create a higher slip angle at the rear wheels than the front) is to lift off the throttle on either fwd or rwd, or of course tap the brakes. but on rwd you can also do it by applying more throttle, although this could put you in quite the peculiar position as the standard way to correct oversteer is give it more throttle, but since you've already induced it by doing such, you can only countersteer and hold on. of course, i could be completely wrong.

inducing a real drift places most of the accelerational forces onto the drive tires, so really it's possible to drift an FF car, where the front wheels, which are the drive wheels, are angled into the corner. Note that this would NOT be ass draggin, as in a FF drift all 4 wheels are "sliding".
Starting a drift with FF can be done with left foot braking or e-braking, or if the car is balanced well enough, with feint motions.
Starting a drift with FR can be done with feint motions, engine braking, or applying more throttle to the car breaking past the neutral balance point. At my best (in the past at least), drift occurs naturally through variables such as corner camber, the turn in, and late braking, in no way deliberately forcing the car to get "sideways". Making the car do something it doesn't want to do = fighting the car = you are NOT in control, and control is the beauty of drift that is overlooked by "drifters" and "curb humpers" alike.

Well, that's the why i'm drifting (or whatever it's called for an fwd) my escort... to learn to control it and not be scared if for some reason my car gets into a drift accidently.....

I bumped into the guy that bought my 240 not long after he bought it. One of the first things he said was, "Holy shit!! It rained last week!! You didn't tell me that car was RWD!!". I laughed out loud while I imagined how it was he learned that valuable piece of information. Then I apologized.
(then I laughed again)

Sigh.
It's some imaginary group of people against curb humping - which basically means fucking up a drift (because you have no idea what you're doing and think F&F is a driver's ed movie), thus slamming your car's ass into a curb. It was meant to be funny once, but because of it's undeniabe appropriateness, it has caught on with such rage it doesn't look like it'll ever die.
That said, I only sighed because you weren't the first to ask, and you certainly won't be the last.

trust me... if you spend enough time learning how to drive normally and gradually push yourself, you'll know the car well enough that you'll be able to spin the car in a 360 without going off the road.
pushing the car into a "drift" isn't a way to learn control, and since you're ready for it, you sure as hell shouldn't be scared. basically, feinting into a drift accidentally is almost completely different from feinting into a drift on purpose.
If there's one thing Initial D got right, it's that great driving technique takes a lot of time to learn. Notice how everyone in it that tries to push themselves and force the car to do something end up crashing.

Be careful on freeway ramps during rain.
My last car was a 325i.
I was taking the small ramp from 605 southbound onto the 10 westbound when my car lost traction and started to slide sideways.
I know I was going too fast at 50mph on that small narrow ramp, but something in my crazy mind pushed me to do it.
I slid across the entire ramp WRC style but luckily regained my straight line coming out. Without track experience, I would have crashed. I also scared the hell out of people in the adjacent merging lane...
So please be careful with those FR's.
Compared to my old 325i, the 240SX is much more stable during drifts and has more predictable handling. After all, Nissan has the best suspension setup in Japan.
