I saw the wheel come off in the driver's hands on a spec Miata at an autocross once. He must not have locked it or something.
But, hey, part of the fun of a quick release is the, "Look, ma, no wheel!" trick!

never in 2 years. if it comes off you got a cheap one or you are putting it on wrong.

I've had mine for a while and NO issues what so ever. Don't be Skurrrrd to buy one...
Buy any quick release that has a locking device, simple as that

install it correctly and it should hold up most of the time
cheap , incorrect install, and hard, hard abusive tracktime might lead to disaster
if you're worried and u abuse the car, get a good one

i have an NRG quickie on momo hub.
It's never came off.
My ebay $30shipped steering wheel is starting to flex when i pull on it now though..
It never did that before.

They shouldn't come off. Even cheap ones. The bearings are held in place by the sliding collar. Unless you pull on that mid-drift (or mid-cornering) it won't come off.
Cheap steering wheels WILL flex though.. I've got the e-bay special too.

was his a spline type or ball bearing?
also what kind of steering wheel hub did he use?
I've had an L2 ball bearing quick release for a long time now, about 3 years+ and has never failed, come off, became sticky, etc...perfect still

If you do decide to get a quick release like an NRG, also get their lock. It will further protect your car so no one can just bring their own steering wheel when they try to steel your car.
You can never be tooo safe.
here is how it looks like.
