Won ebay auction at 55.1K for GT-R, Honda of San Marcos - MY350Z.COM Forums

This is making rounds on the internet. Don't see what the big deal is for only $4K difference they're getting a lot of bad publicity. Also, since when did GTRs drop in price...

If something is too good to be true, chances are it is.

The dealer was listing it for 59, and his bid was 55.
(car is an 08 w/ 36k miles)
taking around 10% off isn't that huge of a discount.
(if the bid was 5k maybe I can understand).

There are better deals out there, so I wouldn't say it's too good to be true.

ebay is an actual contract, and it sounds like theyre trying to breach their contract to me.

Actually, they do. It is a binding contract. A guy won an M3 same thing happened, he ended up getting the car in the end.

This does not reflect well upon the dealer's reputation, but at the same time they are not obliged to sell anything if they decided they do not want to. I am guessing one of the main reasons they backed out is because the buyer is in Alaska and they do not want to deal with the transportation if they were to arrange it. Perhaps the auction had (or did not have but was meant to) one of those 'mainland 48 states buyers only' disclaimers on it.

The dealership didn't list the auction with a reserve, that also may be why they are being shady and backed out.

Yep Legal binding bid. doesn't matter if they had a reserve at one point but they lifted it or the reserve was met. Technically they gotta sell him the car..

The funny thing is someone bought it for a year and a half and put 30k + on it in california.. then moved to texas.. only put 1200 miles on it in 6 months.. and then traded it in at a honda dealership..

I bet it's the personal car of the dealership's sales guy.. Just can't see what someone would trade a GTR into a honda dealership for..

That's the point, the dealer wouldn't hand it over for ~$4k. So they lost $4k right? Not anymore, they were getting bombarded with negative feedback everywhere... Their YouTube page, Facebook recommendations, their phones are getting rung off the hook. I bet they are regretting it now.

Except that it states reasons you are not allowed to deny selling an item.

Bidding without the intent of completing the purchase
Retracting a bid on an item that doesn't fall into a non-binding bid category
Backing out of the transaction due to buyer or seller remorse
Backing out of the transaction because buyers didn't place a high enough bid and the seller didn't add a reserve price
Stating in the listing that bidding could result in a binding obligation to complete the purchase
