Stolen coilovers - and i know who did it/where he lives
So heres the story:
I traded cars with this guy last friday, we agreed that we would keep our own coilovers. We were trying to swap coilovers, but one of the rear bolts stripped on the car i was taking. We decided to keep his rear coils (tein basics) on my car and he would keep my megans on his rears until i could replace the knuckle and then we would swap coilovers again. I took drop springs out of my car when i was going to leave, and accidentally forgot them at his house. Anyway - today i see him posting the drop springs on craigslist - i ask him about it, and he claims he thought i left it for him. I tell him no, im coming to get them once i replace the knuckle, and ask him if im going to get my coils back. After shooting some bs, his excuses for selling them are that my turbo was blown and the vlsd is bad (both not true). I tell him not to sell my drop springs because im going to pick them up. He says "too late" I ask him how much hes going to give me for them, and he replies "nothing" I said "i assume youre going to steal my coils too?" and he replies "pretty much" I have the guys address, but he's way bigger than me and im not the fighting type anyway.. He didnt sign the title i gave to him (i think he was going to resell or something), so i could probably report my car stolen if worst comes to worst.. Any advice? |

Just report the car stolen. End it while you can. Seriously, do not wait whatever you do. If you've read my stolen thread on my coilovers, I waited too long to really do anything about it. Save the text messages where you guys were talking and he said "pretty much". Take him to court, do what you have to do to get it back asap.
I seriously thought this thread was like making fun of my coilover thread I just closed in the stolen forum, hahaha. |

can't report it as stolen... as he has THE OTHER GUYS car, its not gonna add up.
Police will ask... "so he stole your car and somehow you got his car??" It does not add up. A trade is a trade, depends on how you put it on the dmv papers as a "gift" or a trade. A trade has a $$$ value and a gift value can be 0. If you got something out of it, ie his car... then it will be like you purchased it, you traded something of value for something of similar value. Just go to the police and tell them the truth. Don't lie about the situation or its gonna come back and bite you in the butt. |

The car i got from him is not in his name.. its in some guys name in washington, all signed off.
Police pretty much told me its not actually theft, so they cant do anything about it. If i do take him to court, its my word against his, dont really want to go through all the trouble for like $2-300 Hell im alright with just cutting my losses, its just rear coilovers, im just pretty pissed that someone can do that and get away with it. The only other thing i was thinking was that i looked up something called driving without the owners consent.. since the car is still in my name, i may be able to apply for a lost title and do something with that perhaps? |

people do that a lot though.
buy a car that they want to flip. you're only allowed to register and sell so many cars at one time, or else you have to have a dealer license.. its easier to just buy one car, have the previous guy sign it off, and if you decide to flip it, you just hand it over like it was directly sold to him.. |

if you have papers for the product you cnt lose..because at that point, its his words vs. yours and documents, so bam, get your papers an ask for police escorts, an go pickup your shyt..escorts are free btw..thats the best route to go since youre not the type to do damage..i wouldnt let him get away with it

Put it in writing next time.
What are the chances he actually sold them already too? You're getting played, stop being a bitch online and do something about it.

You said that he didn't sign the title for whatever reason, but if you signed it over, then I don't see how you could report the car as stolen. You signed it, because you sold it, so you can't really convice the police or whoever that he stole it, (with a signed title). Unless ofcourse, you say that he took your car, your title, and forged your signature. (Nobody signs their title, unless they're selling their car, or they're retarded. Maybe you can convince the authorities that you are infact retarded??? Idk, just a thought.) I just don't really see that standing up in court. But definetely get the law involved, and show them the texts/emails, or whatever. I'd honestly just go get some friends, and pay this guy a visit, but it's up to you. Good luck getting your stuff back.

Yeah im not going to report it stolen..
Talked to the police, basically they told me they cant do anything. Even if i had the title in my possession, they couldnt go on his property to get it back. Also, they told me they cant do escorts for this unless i have a restraining order pretty much. Im not willing to deal with all that and its not worth the hassle of taking him to court, so im just going to take it as a loss. |

Consider it a lesson learned (lessons are never cheap). Never do a deal unless the transaction is cash & carry, or in the case of titles at a bank in front of a notary.
I don't recommend vandalism, at you will only add to your losses. If you are passionate, find a LEGAL way to harass him. |

I decided to just drop the whole issue, what goes around comes around..
Anyway, as it turns out, the guy he sold the car to contacted me to ask me questions about the car. I met up with him today and we traded back coils and i bought a piggy lip off of him as well. Got my garage door opener back too |
