Set that 2gs aside just for the time being.
Make sure your car is in tip-top shape everywhere else and drive at least half a season with it completely stock. If you must buy something, get some decent street tires and some good adjustable shocks like KYB AGX's and read up on adjusting handling by only changing tire pressures and shock settings. Learn to drive it in it's current compromized form....and next season or at least later this season, only then should you consider jumping into spring rates, coilovers, sway bars, etc. If you get all that stuff now, you'll be relying on it and its adjustments to make you faster rather than your own ability.

I'm with Lance, drive the car to learn for sure what you want of it. After a time, you'll know what you want- then ask your questions :P

Don't forget to repair and replace the rest of the guts, buying some coilovers and ignoring bushings and tie rods won't get you much :P

word to pruto i learned more in perfecting my skill in the stock class than anywhere else and trust me you will also be able to realize what your car does/doesnt do and what you would like to change charistically and then you can change it mechanially

for example my first two years of auto-x i had a severe pushing problem (trans am not nissan) so i set about with this knowldedge to find a soloution with a change in shocks and tires i managed to eliminate the pushing problem

since i had raced with the car in stock form for two seasons i had a far greater appriciation for the modifications not to mention i learned to hone my skill with an imperfect car therefore when you fix the problems you discover your driving ability will advance as well

how much mod can stay in stock class? full complete stock? how about just springs and wheels and intake? or whatever..?
like people who didn't know this (like me) and they want to get in to this but they already moded a little.. do they have to go back to stock to get in?

why not get Z32 brakes and wheels for now? that would give him more control and "feel" while the larger rims/tires might give him better grip. that, of course, is assuming all bushings and necessary mounts are in good condition.

my vote goes to: spend the money on bushings, rims, and brakes.

Definitely just drive in stock class for now. but if you want to spend some money, i think you should first buy tires, sway bars, bushings and some good brake pads and ss lines. you dont need z32 brakes. they're overkill for ka.
