I used my upgraded stainless lines, for coolant, and a had a custom oil line made from my fab guy. still uses the banjo bolt to reduce the oil pressure.

I ended up just putting some silicone gasket sealer around the fittings, seems to be stopping any leakage.
Did some pulls today with the new turbo...slight lag, not too bad though..at full boost about 3800-4k. But the boost comes in STRONG! my AFRs are at about 10.9-11.2 during the heat of the day, and when it cools down at night they are at about 11.3-11.5, right where I like them. I've no complaints about it what-so-ever

Everything is straight for now, Could use a retune, for Phoenix conditions(mine is a mail order rom tune)
Also my boost controller is tired, and doesnt open the waste gate very quickly. so i often over boost, hitting my boost limiter, bleeding boost to 15psi..

And last complaint, tranny is pos. shifting from 1st to second at high rpms grinds.

But other then that, life is peachy. Loving my coilovers i put on 2 mos ago as well.

Ive been running this turbo on a basically stock s13 SR for a few months now, and i love it! Its a bit laggy on a stock motor, but ill be able to fix that soon. I havent had any problems with this turbo what-so-ever, and highly recommend it if you're looking to save money wherever you can!

Switched back to 91 octane for the time being, been doing more long distance driving.. Boost is still strong hitting 21psi in 3rd is wicked!
Stock head and bottom end, hope it holds out lol.
22.5mpg with a/c on in az heat.. not too bad for 91.

also, i notice, at idle my vac is like -10-(-12) mm/hg. where are u guys at, it was closer to -18 with my t28.
I boost leak tested my whole car and it runs fun so no, there is not a vac leak. No my bov is not leaking at idle, Just want to know if any other RS3871 owners have noticed this.

i have heard that after undgrading turbos, your vaccum will go down. just what i heard.

btw can anyone recommend whether this or the godspeed td05 18g is better for a stock redtop sr20. i have heard great reviews on both

at idle my vac is at about -17 to -15, and when in gear under decel my vac goes right to -21. (from what I've experienced with other cars and reading up, that's about right)

This Turbo really pulls. Was holding 20psi all day! Well I boosting hard this morning, my boost blewout/melted a coupler. so i had to pull over and fix the giant vacuum leak.
Here is a picture of the carnage, cheap ass orielly parts. I gotta order some of the silicon triple layers couplers.

And this is how i made it home. Electrical tape ftw,

was able to cruise to orielly on the way home to get a temporary replacement and return this POS

I've had my rs3871 for a couple of months now and it pulls hard just on stock 8 pounds. How do you have your boost controller hooked up? I'm ready to turn up the boost and not quite sure how to hook one up on the 3871

You can hook up a boost controller on any turbo. The controller goes in between the turbo and the waste gate actuator, depending on if its manual or electronic they hook up differently, but there are plenty of diagrams available on the web.

I've been having problems with my 3871. For the past few weeks ive been tracking down a overboosting issue. Ive replaced all visible vac lines, FPR has its own vac line from manifold, BOV and boost gauge share a source. Hallman MBC is installed, but it overboosts whether it is installed or not.

Boost leak check revealed no leaks except at the turbo itself. Sounds like its coming from the CHRA area. Rest of the motor is air tight (FMIC couplers, injector o rings and insulators, TB and IM gaskets, EGR blockoff gasket, BOV flange)

My setup:

3871 with garrett 7# actuator
ISIS FMIC
ISIS V1 manifold+dp+elbow
Five-o 580cc inecjtors
Enthalpy tune
Z32 MAF

any reason your not using the ISIS adjustable wastegate actuator?
because the factory ISIS WGA holds about 12-14psi... and you should not be able to overboost without a MBC hooked up..

If it is still overboosting means ur wastegate isnt opening, disconnect the actuator and see if you can swing the flapper.

I thought that the WGA was the culprit and replaced it with a ATP/Garrett WGA. And i was told that it (the ISIS WGA) holds 8# out of the box at its lowest setting. Even running straight WGA to compressor housing, and minimal preload, i get overboost once the RPM's go beyond 4000.

The flapper swings freely, and the actuator arm moves without binding.

Have you done a boost leak check with your setup? do you get a hissing sound from that area? Im pretty sure that hearing air from that area isint good.

hey man sorry i havent replied to this lately, but there should be no hissing from the turbo.
Do you have the crank case vent still hooked up to the intake? I noticed when i temporarily capped the T on the valve cover it made a wierd hissing/whining sound so dont do that.

Sounds like an issue of the internal gate simply not being up to task. You can try preloading the arm a little to see if it will help, but the only real boost creep solution is to go external wastegate. With that said, it may spike a little and then calm back down by 6000/7000 so be aware of that as well.

Install was successful. Boost hits very hard at 4k. Feels weird having a turbo spool so late. Very good bang for the buck though. But keep in mind, I don't have anything to compare it to other than a stock T25.

Awesome to hear my friend! that little 1.8 probably does have some trouble spooling it up but im sure you love how hard it hits when it does. =)
I been running mine consistantly at 17.5psi until i can get some fine tuning done.
need to order a nistune or something
