1/8PT vs. 1/8NPT :Diff?

My sard FPR calls for a 1/8PT gauge port.
Went to get a gauge and its 1/8NPT.
Put Teflon Tape on it and went to thread it.It Threaded up Decent w/ 1 turn,...then got a tad harderafter that.after getting is as good as Tight as I could (know its a tapered Thread).Now when I even Prime the car *key turned* you can see it trying to leak.

whats the deal?
guy at the Shop said they are essentially the same PT v.s NPT
Wonder why its leaking.Too much Teflon tape?
