I had to change my old fuel tank because of a leak, but after putting in the new tank and adding fuel, I went to plug in the fuel pump plug and then the sending unit but the sending unit plug was different. It had 4 pins vs 3 pins that are on the chassis harness.

Last night I decided to drive the car without the sending unit and it ran fine except for the check engine light.
This morning the car would not start. then I noticed that the pump wasn't priming. Checked the voltage at the pump and nada. I don't have a proper meter to start probing about, but is it possible that the car will not start because of the fact that I do not have the sending unit connected? I was going to try to figure out a way to modify the new unit's 4 wires to my chassis' 3 wire when time permits.

From looking at the schematic, I can't see where the sending unit would keep the car from starting. And would it be possible for this new pump to have some sort of short that might have blown a fuse?

Why dont you pull the sensor out of your old tank and transfer everything over to your new tank?

I was trying to get the unit out of my old tank. Im not so sure how good a shape that sending unit is going to be in once it gets out.

Why would think it would be no good from simply pulling out of the tank?

Not to say that it was no good, it was just that after getting out my old pump, I managed to loosen up the metal clips holding it in place. I'm just worried that by it being so loose that putting it into the present tank might cause issues.

That aside, I was able to drive the car on Sunday night, but by Monday morning the car wouldn't start. I unplugged the connector to the pump and put my old pump in place and nothing. there was no voltage.
I was just curious as to whether not having the sending unit connected would cause the ecu to not activate the pump.

Hey sorry to bring up this old thread but where can i buy a fuel sending unit for a s13? I cant seem to find it
