Need specific tuning help? EBC doesnt work
Before you start flaming me for wanting tuning help, please realize i bought the car like this and now I'm trying to fix it. I have searched and i have a very specific set up i need help tuning. So I got my 240 from a guy in Seattle. He had an SR20DET swapped into it with a Tomei ECU and Greddy Profec E-01 Boost controller. He said that the Tomei ECU and the EBC fight eachother so you cant get any more then 7.9lbs of boost. I would rather not spend the 1K on a Power FC.
I have tried messing with the EBC and setting it to boost more, but it just stays the same. its almost like the Greddy EBC isnt telling the ECU to try more boost. I have read up on the greddy EBC and i know about how to use that. I also downloaded the product manuals for the Tomei ECU and I dont have the CD ROM or link cable for the lap top hook up. I assume i have to get either a different ECU or maybe a manual boost controller? I really like the greddy EBC though. I also live in Bozeman MT so its literally impossible for me to go to a tuner shop and have them look at it. Anybody know of a tuner shop that specializes in SR20DET Tuning that i could call and maybe get some more info? Any info helps. Thanks

I have also searched google tons for Tomei ECU tuning and theres not a lot. I'm waiting on a call back from Fairlady Z motors in Tacoma WA. They did the engine swap so maybe they would know more about how to get the EBC and the ECU to communicate to eachother.
Maybe i need a new chip for the ECU? There is a lot to learn about tuning the SR20DET with different ECUs and Controllers.

Just spoke with the failady Z guy in WA. He said the ECU and the EBC dont actually communicate. They dont affect eachother. He said if i cant get anymore boost its most likely the boost controller malfunctioning. I will have to go over all the connections and plumbing to make sure its all hooked up right. He said it sounds like the solenoid is probably not hooked up right. This is one of the reasons i would rather build my car so i know exactly what parts to get. But i got a killer deal on the car so i cant complain if i have to go back through and fix a few things.

Without a doubt it's the EBC not being hooked up correctly, or being turned on, or setup. Could be as simple as missing vacuum lines, or as complicated as a shit EBC (not that they usually fail though)
If you need more boost on budget, get a manual controller. With that said I wouldn't trust running big boost with a JDM ECU, it's not tuned for 93 octane.

Brilliant. You dont know anything about these cars, and you bought the cheapest you could find because "it must not be a big deal to fix". Truth is the seller surely made a killer deal by selling this junk. For future reference, note how long it will take you to rebuild it correctly, and how much it is going to cost. When you are done with it, wether you succeeded or not, compare that to how much it would have cost to buy something that works. Boy are you in for a surprise ... BTW "tomei ECU" is a fancy name for "OEM ECU with tomei chip and tomei cover". |
