I need to replace the passenger side tie rod after having bent it. Does anyone know what size wrench fits on the square part of the ball and socket joint, where the tie rod meets the rest of the rack? I need to pick one up today. Edit: this is a 95 S14 w/ all original steering.

Sorry I don't know what size it is, but I would just use a vise-grip or similar tool... you probably won't be turning it too much, and a visegrip should do...

Hey gizzard,

I need to change my right outer tie rod (I have an S13, but my question is more of a general type). i bought an outer tie rod from Pep Boys and the damn thing is shorter (its horizontal arm, the one that screws on the inner tie rod) than the one on the car. I don't plan to get an alignment after I change the outer tie rod, so i figured I would count how many times I turn the old tie rod when I unscrew it and turn the one I put on the car the same number of times. Which would have probably worked if the 2 outer tie rods would have been the SAME damn LENGTH !!! Does anybody have any thoughts? Maybe if I go to a different auto parts shop I can find a part that is identical to the one currently on the car.
